Forums - Website Topics - People's signatures -- my gripe

i never had a GIF on my sig, not because i don't want to but because i don't know how to make them.

I just find it annoying that I was personally chastised for having a signature too big, yet there's countless people running around with signatures twice the size mine use to be, animated and it clearly altering the layout of the forum when you open a page.

I know my post sounds like whining, but hey, I'm not the one who initially complained about signatures in the first place.  And it kind of makes all the effort I did to make a new signature, within the size limit, pointless.

@OP
It would be nice to have some sig control. Also try a better browser. Opera, Firefox are way better alternatives. Chrome is nice because each page is it's own instance, but at the same time it uses more memory to accomplish that.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Long live the ability to turn them off

but still: signatures with pics should just be forbidden. Most fora where you can only use text, are way more enjoyable.

If they are too big, report them. Do it again if you feel enough time has passed that a moderator could have dealt with the issue. The first offense is a warning which many posters ignore in my experience. The majority of the forum seems ok with overly large signatures so you have to take it upon yourself to point it out to mods when one slips through the cracks.

My pet peeve with signatures and avatars/names

It is odd that a slight troll of something can get you a ban and yet someone with a trolling sig can do so in every thread they ever post with zero issues.

Of my many, many, many issues with signatures I would say this has to be my biggest one. Certain mods will crack down on sigs harder than others (! miss you Twesterm) but trolling in them largely goes un-dealt with. When I first started complaining I was told by a mod that it was a-ok according to the forum rules as well, though that was 2 rule revisions ago. I also dislike the trolling with user names, and avatars, but thats a different thread.

Gifs used to be wildly out of control. I can only imagine the horrors that have been unleashed since my vigilante eye for sig length has gone blind. I am all for a rule limiting how big they can be individually and in aggregate. After a certain point the gif is just going to harm the viewing experience of the majority, and it needs to be stopped. How big is too big should probably be determined by someone who does not hate them all as a rule.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one that saw the blatant trolling in peoples sigs and user names. Its like the mods are blind to it.

This is a separate issue but the absolute worst trolling appears on some peoples profiles and walls. Although I don't know if the mods can do anything about that since it doesn't appear on the forums.

I kill sigs because this site loads slowly enough on my phone without them. Any scrap of useless code I can avoid loading is a good thing. The fact that it speeds up desktop browsing is a bonus. Though, I do sometimes miss them.

Would love to have a mobile version of the forums with no sigs, formatting that plays well with screens less than 1200 pixels wide, and more efficient ads.
