Forums - Gaming - why this gen differs so much from the previous

the winner console doesn 't get the most games ,2nd and 3rd place consoles outsells by far the previous gen 2nd and 3rd place

and they get  more third-party support while last gen the winner console was getting the most  third-party support

for Wii its Piracy, developers don't want their games to sell like crap.

PS2 had heavy piracy, but it had the core AND the casual as a base, so they had to support it.

The PS2 was the successor of the PS1; the most successful console ever. The Wii is the successor of the GameCube, one of the least successful consoles ever.

In other words, the third parties have bet on the wrong horse.

you're telling me they made a bet on a wrong horse five years in advance?

huh? the Wii does get by far the most games (over 800 in vgchartzs database, while 360 has 550+ and PS3 450+).. but not the "AAA" productions (and by AAA I mean the money that goes into developing and marketing - not some irrelavant aggregate score)

if someone bets on a wrong horse , they'd learn in 5 years time you know?

do you think they are STILL supporting the wrong console without even knowing? , no

like i said its because on the Wii there are a lot of piracy so some core games (since most people who like these types of games will most likely pirate it) so what do developers do ?  they don't support it much (i am talking about the core games)

last gen the core and the casual were on a single console, so if developers support it (and its the smart way to go obviously) they can get the sales of both demographic markets, also have the appeal of both.

Obviously it's too late to turn back now. But most high profile games released in 2007-2008 were already being made before it was clear the Wii would dominate.

but did it dominate in software sales ? thats all that matters for third party developers, again blame piracy and lake of care from Nintendo's side (if they want to remove piracy they should ban consoles like Microsoft does)

Different than the more recent generations but very similar to the NES generation.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
