Forums - Gaming - The state of the industry after motion controls are all established

1) You worded this the way it's really hard to comprehend, but I got the idea... hopefully.

As far as I can tell, not really. If we assume that whole idea of game review is some kind of buyer's guide (which I beleive is very narrowed down definition, but unfortunately that's what they are mostly), then most reviewers do quite a bad job reviewing games based on new values and targeted at audience differ from those who usually read game reviews (note, I didn't say motion-controlled games, since motion controllers aren't enough or even required for such games, traditional games with motion controllers will do fine review wise). Though they're good at catering to their audience, thus some may find they're making a good job reviewing such games to audience mostly not interested in them.

They won't change this kind of attitude in nearest future, though I expect some hypocrisy and double standards to be involved, when some motion-controller shovelware on PS3 will be scored higher than the same quality games on Wii simply due to the fact the former are in HD. But not by too much.

2) Motion contollers are irrelevant to online play.

3) If by 'genres' you mean some gameplay cliches that a lot of devs are using, or at least games of this 'genre' have massive sales, i.e. genre-definfing, then there will be nothing that already haven't been done in last four years on home consoles. Unless Nintendo will make smth new and motion-controlled (which I doubt, since they're focused on Vitality Sensor by now) or Natal will explode (not a big believer either).

4) All hype will go to Natal and to lesser degree to Move, they'll get good sales based on hype and all 3rd party support you can imagine. But PSmove is for sure will fall short to deliver some meaningful sales long-term, Natal might be more successful  depending on software provided. Wii won't outshine both of those with it's Vitality Sensor in eyes of media and industry, but likely to deliver actual impact on consumers long-term with it's Wii Relax considering their track record.

Response to response #2:

How are motion controls irrelevant to online play? A lot of my friends are hardcore gamers and we loved MW: WAW with motion controls on the Wii. I've played FPS with a keyboard, controller and now motion controls have their own unique feeling. I believe the Move will capitalize on this, but I don't know how Microsoft will just yet. I think Microsoft will harness online play for casual titles while Sony will harness online for more core titles. Please elaborate on how motion controllers are irrelevant to online play? So far I believe its because motion controls are exclusive to one brand until the launches of the others. Can't wait to see your response.
