Heaby Rain stands a better chance of getting it than GOWIII IMO.

GOWIII didn't have any crappy scores to bring it's total meta down, so although reviewers thought it was great, it's about on par with HR (take away it's really low scores and it probably averaged the same, low scores from silly review sites like teletext ect)

Heavy Rain deserves it over GOW III, having not played either though my opinion isn't worth much, just going by what both games offer in terms of innovation ..

easily Final Fantasy XIII, no other game this year comes close. closest wud be mass effect 2. both games make this th best year for rpg's in recnt history.

bt if versus xiii comes out this year it mite win.

-Cant believe I forgot Bayonetta in the notable mention list.damn

-SMG2: I guess Mario could be in the 'likely' list base on its history

-Star Craft 2: Definite contender but its not on consoles

-The Last Guardian: 2011 title but if it released this year it would most likely be in the contenders list

The games I think deserves the title:

Mass Effect 2
God of War 3
Heavy Rain

Games that aren't yet released that are bound to have their chances:

Zelda Wii
Alan Wake
Red Dead Redemption


Games like Halo:Reach and StarCraft 2 will most likely win Best of their own categories (FPS/RTS) but I don't see them as overall GOTY contenders.

January will be a vicious season for fanboy wars, because there will be no debate about the merits of these games, but a broader clash of gaming values. I think this is about sums up the whole thing.

The interesting part will be seeing the ftermath and prick-waving to follow.

you think SMG2 wont be a contender? its prequle got most of GOTY awards in 2007, it has beaten Halo 3, COD4, Bioshock,Uncharted, GOW2...
