Forums - Sony - I turned my beat-up old PSP 2000 into a shiny new Monster Hunter PSP

My PSP 2000 has been in pretty poor shape for a while. It has screen scratches and the battery case is broken. I made all that go away over the course of 3.5 hours of grueling labor and $15 for a new housing on eBay. Now my PSP looks and plays like it's brand new, and got a style upgrade to boot. Check out the pictures below.

After

I have next to zero electrionics hardware assembly experience. I've built a computer before, but that's child's play compared to all the tiny ribbon cables and connections I had to deal with in the PSP. Still, I'm quite proud of myself. I don't necessarily recommend this to anyone else, however. It's extremely easy to mess something up permanently.

Good Job

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

did you change your screen? cause if the shell was beat up, i'd guess the screen too... not much of an upgrade if that part is all scratched up still :p

(the copper looks nice on the back side... a bit too shiny on the front side though (maybe it's the light)).

The screen is part of the faceplate. Well, that's not completely accurate. There's a clear screen cover on the faceplate which is what you think of as the screen, and it's the part that gets scratched.

And yes, it's the light. It's not all that shiny. It's actually less shiny than the gloss blue one I replaced.

That coffee table is actually an old piano bench. It's all that fit in the room.
