Though I am surprised I haven't seen any betrayal posts yet.

Square just must be that damn good for its fans to flip out.

True Aquare fans never flipped out when they went to Sony from Nintendo. And going multi did ntohing to hurt FF. That is fanboyism nothing more.

I will always love Bungie for what they have given us in Halo. And what is to come. To say betrayal is just fanboyism. I am happy that they are still awesome devs. And Sony fans will get to see that first hand.

Never bought anything from them before and that's not going to change in the future.

Who publishes a Bungie game is irrelevant. You fear a rush job? They were forced to rush H2 and they delivered pretty excellently. You fear Activision getting their hands all over the game? Bungie isn't dumb. They didn't rush into a deal that will handcuff them creatively.

Bungie has pretty much done everything a developer can possibly do to service fans and make quality games under the conditions they have. And you think that now that they have more control, money and resources than perhaps ever before, they are going to screw it up?

Rest easy, friends. The only hitch I could possibly see is them learning to code for PS3. I'm sure they will bring in experienced teams to help, and Activision has clearly published lots of PS3 games and can help there.

People over-reacted when things like DMC4 and RE5 and FFXIII came to 360, and there will be those that over-react when Bungie appears on PS3. But it's all over-reaction. The day of the non-first party devs going exclusive are pretty much over. And fronting all the costs of games of Halo's magnitude, which their new IP seems to be in terms of scope (at least!) is dangerous. They needed a partner with deep wallets.

People need to get a grip. Doesn't matter much. Probably won't be out until 2012 at the earliest, and likely 2013. That's a long time to keep one's panties in a bunch.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

I'm disappointed in their choice of publisher, but I guess the games will probably still be the same.

Hopefully they don't end up making Call of Hawk Hero: Spartan Edition

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

@ssenkahdavic, bungie wouldnt be bungie without m$ and thats a fact. if m$ never bought them and used halo as the must have xbox game and made sure everyone knew that for their start into the console race, bungie wouldnt be anywhere near where they are today. it just seems to me that bungie spit in m$'s face by signing this deal. so i will buy halo reach, but after that i hope every game they make bombs hard and is utter trash. i know my opinion is going to be in the very small minority but its my opinion.

They would not be where they are today without MS.  I agree completely.  Thing is, MS let them go independent.  Did they have to? No.  But it is probably a good thing that they did (think Activision-IW).

Bungie had to sign a deal of this nature to stay afloat (since they are not doing anything else Halo after Reach).  Bungie needs a Publishing partner that can/will go to different platforms (MS obviously wont) and Activision might just be the right place for them.  Activision Blizzard is large enough where they have no problem "spitting in MS eye" (as you put it) where other smaller Publishers might just think twice about it.

Was it Bungie or MS that made the decision on Halo? Does anyone know?

That's a load of BS and you know it.  Bungie will make a metric shit-ton of money off of Reach, more than enough to keep them going until their next game comes out.  They obviously have their reasons for signing a deal with Activision, but a desparate need for money because big-bad MS won't let them make a multiplat game is not one of them.

How it is BS?  Do you know how much Bungie will be paid for Reach?  Read their interview with Edge.  In there they say they want to go Multiplat (could not do that with MS, agree?) and that this deal is VITAL for them to remain free to work on this IP and ONLY this IP (they did say something about maybe a small project or so) for an entire decade.  The fact that the deal allows them to:

A) Stay Independent

B) Keep the IP (which they regret they could not do with Halo, its in the Edge Interview)

C) Use Activision to help with the transfer to Multiplat (use their internal resources)

just does not seem like a bad thing to me.

For some reason my highlighting did not work.  I was not saying your entire post was BS, just the part where Bungie "had to sign this deal to stay afloat."  That is not even remotely true.

Activision screwed Infinity Ward over. Not paying them any royalties for all the hard work and efforts into developing Call of Duty: Modern warfare 2. infinity Ward are no more. Bungie may well end up just like Infinity Ward. Activision are a greedy corporation and they will most likely shaft Bungie in the future just like they did to Infinity Ward.

Bungie are traitors and sell outs to Halo fans and Microsoft fans. Halo games may well need a new developer. Bungie has betrayed 360 fans and Microsoft fans. I will not buy any game from Bungie/Activision. No Haklo game for 10 years after Halo: Reach launch. May as well just say Halo series is finished.

If you are offered a big enough carrot, you are sure to go for it.

You should have made an option for no change in opinion. I don't love them so the first option is out, and I didn't lose any respect for them so the second option is out. The other 4 choices are just ridiculous.

I join RTH in 'last game ever' but I don't think I feel as strongly about it. I never play online anymore and was figuring Reach to be my last FPS anyway. I really prefer wrpgs, action, slashers, some tps now. Bungie will never go third-person so I won't ever buy one of their games. Too much to buy in the genres I prefer. Halo was great but I can just barely justify full-price for the single player Reach campaign. Odd I know but that is that. Buh Bye Bungie and bon chance.

i think that this will make bungie a lot of money. they chose a publisher with experience on all platforms that can do big launches. the more money they make, the larger they can make their team, the more projects they can do.

for all the good that halo is (hey I just bought odst and will get reach), i'm not sure bungie will ever be able to replicate the franchise...
Having a franchise that has a ton of rabbid fans is more due to luck than an actual good game. Halo was afterall the first big online console FPS.... and the first always has a prefered spot in the hearts of people.
Now if you look at the next franchise you'll have disgruntled people saying "meh, it's not halo" and others saying "ok, but I seen that before".... it's just going to be hard for them to get similar success.

look at BFBC2 vs MW2 sales and you'll see the difference between a franchise with a fanbase and a wanabe competitor... both games are great, but one has the fanbase.
