Think about it like this, the PS3 has managed to take two new IP's (Resistance, Motorstorm) and turn them into million sellers.

They were bundled (both together) with the 60 GB Starter Pack in Europe for a long time, so it's hardly surprising.

They sold a million BEFORE they were bundled. Resistance is going to hit 2 million with a bundle. If we go by your logic, Forza 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance sales increased because of a bundle.

You may be right, so be it. I still fail to see how the PS3 compares well to the 360 in terms of software sales (as someone said, the number of million sellers is much bigger on the 360). Motorstorm and Resistance were practically the only decent games for the PS3 for a long time, it's not exactly surprising that 2 games sold well... It's the variety we appreciate. There's also a few games you forgot to mention for the 360, but someone else has already enumerated them, so I rest my case...

Sure they had competion, back in 2005 the PS2 was still a beast. Also the incredible hype of the mysterious PS3 and the Wii was in the air and people waited till they came out to decide. There is always competion. Back then, all you could see of the PS3 were incredible tech demos that were all CGI and fake but people believed them back then. Go back and watch Sony's E3 2005 press conference and you will laugh yourself silly today

Yep and remember, everyone thought that the Xbox 360 is going to be the next Dreamcast.

It's pathic that the 360 is being out sold by the PS3 when its cheaper and has better games. and to say that it's because of Blu ray. Come on.

Pathetic on the part of the fanboys that prove Sony right when they say you guys will buy their console with no games for it. I guess your right! It's a shame that these people call themselves gamers and actually believe it. You're probably one of the few people that can already see how diverse the PS3's library already is compared to the 360.

You had a year to build up a lead against both the Wii and PS3, failed to keep up after RRoD, then the Wii passes it with ease (cheaper price and no RRoD= success). Please tell me, why is the 360 being outsold WW by the PS3 during the holidays when there are games like Halo 3, PGR4, Forza 2. Mass Effect, Bioshock, and third party titles with no frame rate issues? The PS3 has R&C and Uncharted first party wise, and Assassins Creed and CoD4 (in some european territories the PS3 versions are outselling the 360 versions).

The PS3 is more reliable, it has games, and the fact that games like MGS 4, GT prolouge (because even a demo looks and plays better than any racing game out right now) Final Fantasy and Killzone2 (Hype+Graphics=sells well) have yet to come out shows why Sony still has a lot left.

Didja get that thing I sentcha?

Whatever, these 2/3 good weeks for the PS3 are not suppose to make the console taking the second place. Even the whole Xmas like this will not make the console take the 2nd place.

The only thing to note about the PS3 :

- worst news (delayed game)
- worst price (400/500$)
- worst exclusive line-up (Unchartred/Ratchet VS Bioshock/Halo3/MassEffect)

==> outsold the Xbox360 according to VGChartz.

Oh my god Microsoft isn't spreading it thick. Wait are we actually complaining about a company not spreading lies, manipulations, and making exaggerated claims. A company not trying to spin numbers in some obtuse way to make themselves look better. Gasp how dare they let themselves be judged on product quality and nothing else.

You know some companies do not actually behave like Sony. They do not send forth their executives to lie to consumers, and brag about non existent features. Some companies actually say what they intend to do, and stick with it. So obviously with no more big announcements for the year. The products, pricing, and support having already been delivered for the holiday season what exactly shout they be doing?

I think some posters need to recognize a few things. First is that the 360 actually topped the PS3 in Europe for six weeks straight this year. Sony has no dominance and ten thousand for a few weeks in the holiday season isn't going to get them very far. After the holidays if the ratio remains the same the difference could end up being as little as a couple thousand.

That brings up the second point Sony isn't very likely to offer another price cut next year. Sony admitted to as much themselves. Seriously anyone expected one is just about as naive as one can get. Sony does need to generate profits that exceed their losses. They have lost Billions of dollars on the PS3. The price cutting of this year was pure desperation, and not strategic in the least. Further more it increased their projected losses many fold. The result is this Sony is in no shape to cut prices again next year. There is no magical price cutting fairy which some posters seem to think exists.

Honestly Sony was pushed into a corner not merely by Microsoft, but by Nintendo as well. They didn't want to do any price cuts this year. Instead they were forced to slash their prices by upwards of a third in some markets. They then included bundles with their most highly praised games. Finally they have been forced to fund expensive media campaigns, and it is suspected that they have had to pony up seriously for exclusive content.

Compare that to Nintendo with a fifteen dollar pack in game, and a profitable console with no price cuts. Compare that to Microsoft which bundled games that had spent their prime. Who also only cut their prices by a measly thirteen percent. Further more their production was a what eighteen months in at the time. The reality becomes clear price reductions are far more likely and possible for the competitors. Economically they are in a far better position to do so, and strategically during the cold year between holiday seasons would be far more effective.

Finally I am getting quite tired of this killer PS3 lineup I have heard so much about. I have compared the release lists, and honestly the competitors offerings are up to par. Even so Microsoft and Nintendo haven't even shown all of their offerings for next year, or have necessarily negotiated all of their exclusive content. Meanwhile Sony has displayed most everything they have coming.

Too much living high on the hog in this thread, and the fact that Sony is just keeping pace with the 360 globally is actually a very poor sign. They need to be performing much better. Next year price will become a major factor once more, and thanks to all of this years delays the market will be glutted through the first half of next year. The lineup for next year isn't doing Sony any favors. Making for a much harder sell to consumers.

I think you guys are throwing the fireworks before the party starts, as we say in my country. It barely outsold the 360 due to a price cut, new PS3 models and colors and the launch of DW6 in Japan. Wait a few weeks and the picture will be different. But feel free to have unrealistic expectations, you will probably regret it later.

@Peter Potamus

Price cuts? which I guess will level out pretty soon w/ ps3 back below? Oh well, what do I know??? LOL

I agree getting to excited just because after a price cut and a new model along with loads of PR the ps3 only just manged to outsell the 360 for 2-3 weeks in nov. Im gald the ps3 is selling better because comp is always a good thing but to think that ms are in trouble is a laugh.
