Forums - Microsoft - On the 360 slim rumors

I am just so surprised that anyone out there even remotely thinks the PS3will even catch the 360 still.

It's over. And as of Natal launch PS3 will always be last in the sales WW.

I believe ( or IMO ) that PS3 will be more than 12 million behind 2nd place when the generation is done.

I say too sense.

The 360 started out smaller because you have that hugh power brick, Sonys is inside, If 360 gets a slim then cool, I really dont think its a big deal, for different reasons, Sont did it to get costs down, MS has made money on there console for awhile now, so I rerally don't see them copying Sony on this one , reasons are different.

I imagine that they are likely true.   I also think that since the 360 start out slightly smaller than the PS3 did, that it started off with a more cramped design that it wont be able to duplicate the slimdown that tthe PS3 got.

I dont think that it will be as large of a cutdown, but I definitely think that it will be enough to equalize things for the 360 and the PS3.  It will set the PS3's catchup with worldwide HW back until 2012 is my armchair prediction.

Will this be a big thing, or just a "meh" like I think?

Big thing is the price.  Can Microsoft slash prices again and not take a lost on the system due to the redesign.  The actual shape the 360 is in is a meh.  The PS3 increased in sales due to price cut, not the new look.

They could easily make it as small as the Wii, the only thing is they'd need to keep their external power brick.

So if there is a 360 slim, yeah it'll probably be slimmer than the PS3 but it'll be because they have an external power source unlike the PS3 which has everything in the unit itself.

I doubt they could make it as small as the Wii. Doing a quick search, the Wii uses under 20W, while the X360 uses somewhere under 150W (the original used something like 170) but I doubt they have it under 100W. They wouldn't be able to dissapate the heat with such a small design.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Just curious, why do people care about power bricks so much?

I generally don't care because they're just something that sits in the back of my entertainment center and never gets noticed.

(and by the way, the problem I had with my 360 not powering off appears to have fixed itself when I plugged it back in)

I think its possible ad would be a great new option for consumers.

If they made it slimmer, I bet they would bundle natal with it to keep it at that $299 pricepoint. Seems fair but again the issue with the new hd will be saved bcus m$ has a accessory for it to transfer hd data, so thats pretty cool. So along with new HD's and natal looks promising.

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

with reworked hardware it could be as small as the Wii if they tried hard enough. anything is possible.

not really, unless the HDD get external, at much closer to the ps2 but never smaller than that.

heat issues would arrive quickly.  sony managed to do because they got have practice on it, and they didn't save cost on cooling.
