Nice little thread here.

There are many haters for the game out there but this game seriously impacted my gaming life. Before it I played nothing similar....and huge worlds...unending quests...myriad of items....relationship detail and everything just enveloped me.

I'd admit I got fedup and never actually finished the game...but that was like after 400+ hours of bliss.

It's not the only Interplay franchise to have a shitty sequel made by another developer.

Daggerfall is indeed huge, but personally i played Morrowind more because the world is pretty detailed as in every part of it is fun to explore (i am not talking about the graphics)

Best RPG this gen? I don't recall Mass Effect being renamed to Oblivion....

I'm a huge WRPG fan, but i couldnt disagree more.

I've tried to play Oblivion plenty of times on both 360 and the PC (hells i even bough the GOTY version recently to give it a try again) but i just cant get sucked into this game.

I hate the world of this game, for me it is extremely shallow and bland. I agree it is huge , but its just not fun enough to explore.

All NPC characters are way too one dimensional. They are either good or evil there no real depth or interesting story behind them. Most of them have just uniteresting generic dialogue. And they just serve as a starting point for another "generic" quest. Compare it to world of Mass Effect or Dragon Age, Oblivion has nothing on them.

The Story is way too simple , its very short, terribly obvious and its not engaging in any way. After closing few gates i just got bored.

Some are pretty decent , i did enjoy thieves guild, fighters guild and Dark brotherhood. I also enjoy the freedom that this game gives you, but this again is kinda brought down by boring story and characters in the game.

I actually think Oblivion is one of the most overrated games of all time. And this generation there has been plenty superior WRPG's games; Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 1&2, Fable 2 are way more interesting and engaging at every level.

Fallout 3 is also a great game (not as awesome as the originals imo) better in every aspect then Elder Scrolls IV. Morrowind was actually much better, and so are games like Baldur's Gate Series or KOTOR.

The original poster called his thread 'Oblivion is the best RPG this gen'.  But then if you look at the very first post in the thread, he expands on that to say 'Oblivion is the best WESTERN RPG in this gen'.  That is what I was pointing out.

So he's going to have a bunch of people getting angry at him about Demon Souls, FFXIII and Tales of Vesperia for a simple mistake in naming his thread.  Mostly because people don't read.

I posted my thoughts on both. OP poster is to blame for the mix up.

Well CGI , what do you think Demon's Souls is ? cause i said THAT is the best RPG this gen, but is it a WRPG?
if it is then thats right , if its not a WRPG then i'd say Mass Effect is the best WRPG.

Yes the article is correct its the BEST WRPG of this gen by a light year.

seriously the charm & epicness in Oblivion was TOO GOOD!

Fallout 3 & Dragon Age were boring compared to it and utter disappointments.

I still want my Elder Scrolls V....I REALLY WANT MY ELDER SCROLLS V! But I'll be playing Morrowing soon!

In terms of RPG's overall 2 beat oblivion for me this gen....FFXIII & Dragon Quest V Remake (yes this is a surprise, never expected to love it as much as I have).
