Forums - Sony - PS3 starting to take off in Europe/Others

nice going for ps3. I am looking forward to a second competitive system in the market here.

Now if they would drop the price on the PS2, I would most definitely consider getting it (DVD-Player, Ico, Shadow of Colossus and done - all for 150 EUR and I would buy instantly). Then in a year or so, I would go for the ps3 after another price drop and/or FFXIII and then would be a very happy camper.

"""True. I was reffering to the fact that most posters here claimed PS3 will drop totally right after 60 gb sku is out of stock. Buyers do prefer 60 gb sku over 40 gb but they will buy the second if first is unavailable. That was really brilliant move of Sony. 40 gb sku is cheaper to make and more affordable to buy. Great deal with 60 gb starterpack prevented stockpiling of this model. Everyone is happy."""

==> better move of Sony this generation ?

Time to Work !

yep ps3 will beat 360 this christmans in europe but will slightly lose to wii

NA is not enough for the 360 to remain in front, as I've said all along, and the gap in EU/Others and Japan will only increae salewise.
MS has severely misjudged the importance of the north american market in this and it could prove their demise.

I think you could very well be right.

The thing is though.  The Xbox is predominately more popular in NA than Europe and it's a no goer in Japan.  With the 360, the Japanese market has again turned it's nose up at it, but Europe has embrased the 360 more so than not.  With the PS3 now out in the market some 8 months in Europe, this is now starting to take off and 360 numbers are dwindling while PS3 numbers are rising.

I reckon MS will start pulling out all the stops in Europe.  They know that NA love the 360 and they "should be safe" there, so I reckon MS will start putting more effort into Europe.  They can forget Japan though.

But what they need to watch for, is that the PS3 doesn't start getting much better in NA while they dedicate themselves to Europe.  Or they will end up a guaranteed 3rd place.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Yeah, I'm waiting to see what A: MS will do to improve in Europe (UK is the only good place, or at least was) and B: Sony will do to improve in NA.
With the news of new chipsets in the PS3, odds are that the price will drop again pretty soon, perhaps teamed with the release of some blockbuster game come first quarter 08', which would leave only a miniscule difference in price between the two.
I'm not sure how much money MS or Sony are willing to loose on their games division to keep their respective brand names afloat, but I'd wager; a whole lot...

If Sony wants to get a chuck of the US market I think a bundle of GTA IV with the 40gb should do the trick.

I'll take the case!!!

It proves one thing - people accepted 40 gb sku has no BC. Period.

Most of them don't know it. I payed 150 Euros extra for BC.

I don't think taking off is the right word to use. Yes, it is currently outselling the 360, but the gap really isn't that big. The holiday season has started to pick sales up already, and although sales will increase further going into December the current sales show PS3 might be outselling 360 somewhere between 200-400k. That means the gap between them will still be above 1.5M easily beginning next year, and with the current sales it will still be a long time before PS3 manages to catch up.

I bought a 40gig ps3 in Australia for $650 australian(570US). I would have loved to have ps2 BC although at least this way I saved $350 and I can use my ps2 to play its games. I wish Americans only knew how good they have it because in Australia we pay more for a 40gig ps3 than they do for an 80gig in the states.
