Forums - General - Gordon Brown overheard calling woman "bigoted"

Like I said in the other thread Boris Johnson slagged off the whole of Liverpool and is now the Mayor of London. This shouldn't be a big deal.

It's absolutely disgusting behaviour like this that has made me lose faith in our national representative. I agree that he seems to be a weak leader. But, a vote for the LibDems is a vote for 5 more years of Gordon Brown....

Hung parliament with LibDems/Tories in coalition was the most likely outcome until this. Still could be, depends on where the Labour seats that are lost go.

the other leaders wont use this, or at least I think its highly unlikely.

Brown is a pretty bad leader imo, this comment is badly misjudged, theyre was no real reason for it either.

I do however find it odd, that this is the biggest story in the british media today...

What else would they focus on?  That the greeks are setting everybody up for a huge fall? Pshah.

Greece is like the USA's California.

The more I see how similar the U.K. is the U.S., the more I smile and laugh (this thread is full of examples). Thanks guys .

I hope Cameron nails him for this!

If it says true to US politics we'll find out the old lady was a plant by the conservatives... and also not really an old lady.  Then she'll become an iraq war correspondent.

My opinion of him went up because of this.

Hmm, pie.

Why would it go up for him bending over so fast?

By the weay the reason he had to apologise is very simple.... she didnt say anything remotely bigoted.

I understand that she didn't say anything remotely bigoted, that's why I said I don't approve of what he said. However, for whatever reason, he called the woman a bigot, he obviously meant it too. He can't just apologise and pretend it never happened, he should at least explain his comment. An apology in an attempt to back out of his comment is not what he should be doing.

It would be disastrous for him if he explained his comment and stuck by it, but to be honest this is disastrous for him whatever happens.

Also, I like my politicians to stick by what they say (I know, they don't), Gordon Brown is not sticking by what he said in this case, so why should he for anything else?

But the other side of that is that sometimes you have to know when to step back and admit you screwed up and acted like an ass.   Which of course as you pointed out can make you seem weak.

Basically he was screwed either way, he needed to jut not say anything in the first place.
