Forums - Microsoft - Full version of Birth of a Spartan. Beautiful!!!

Interesting that 343 got a mention at the end of the trailer, seeing as they normally work behind the scenes on the franchise. I guess with Bungie stepping away after Reach, we'll see 343 coming forward.

I actually hate this trailer, and that's purely because I hate the "nameless, bland soldier steps into a suit" cliche. That said, the music is as brilliant as ever.

Really pumped for Reach. Tempted to get a 360 for it and Alan Wake.

That's actually the point of this trailer though.  The Spartans are nameless and faceless for a reason.  Hardly anyone at this point in the war even knew of their existance, not even their own parents.  Their parents believed they were all dead, hence the the scene where Carter is looking at his parents photographs.  He knows that even if he survives the war he will never see their faces again.  Pretty touching actually.

Also he's a Spartan III who were litteraly suicide soldiers.  They were sent on missions considered even impossible for a squad of spartan 2's for the most part.  Hundreds of them were sent to their deaths and they all knew that they would die eventually in battle anyways.  They are nameless, and faceless, but the greatest hero's of the entire UNSC.

Being a Spartan means dissapearing.  It means sacrificing everything and getting zero recognition for it whatsoever.  Basically the true definition of a hero, not some JRPG flamboyant charisma filled kid like in many games now days.  Even though I love games like that the Halo universe can show a much more human side to their hero's, which makes them that much more powerful.

that was the most touching reply I have ever read on this site!  *sniff*  So many brave souls will die by my side on May 3rd!

@Adobo

lol thanks I just think waaaaaaay too many people brush off Halo as another shooter with big guys going around killing stuff whereas if you actually look into it theres a story and a mythology there thats incredibly powerful. Most casual fans don't understand the sacrifice that the Spartans go through and thats understandable since it does take a bit of research beyond just playing Halo 1 - 3. But basically if you watch the trailer and really know more about the Spartans and their origins its a very powerful trailer, almost eerie to watch since basically Carter himself is dying and Spartan A-259 is being born.

Great response but you got one thing wrong. Spartan III's are all orphans, their parents killed by the Covenant. So everything Carter is going through and in fact all the Spartan III's subject themselves to is to get revenge for their parents deaths. Since the Spartan III's were not genetically perfect like the S II's ONI was hoping that the extra motivation to get revenge on the covenant would be the x-factor that would make up for their deficiencies.

                      The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers

Also another thing I just wanted to mention is that the Spartan II's were never given a choice about the transformation but Carter clearly was as you can see at the beginning when he is holding the electronic chip. Carter knew the risks and pain involved with transformation but he voluntarily did it, I think that says a lot.

@mendicate Bias

damn good point, I forgot that about the SIII's all being orphans. Its been almost a year since I last Read Ghosts of Onyx's and got that aspect confused with the SII's and the flash cloneing procedure done to make their parents believe they all died. My bad.
