Analyst's sources doubt the chances of Mass Effect 1 ever hitting PS3, but Pachter reckons PS3 Mass Effect 3 is a definite.

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that Mass Effect will eventually hit PS3, and is "certain" that the third game in the series will be available on Sony's console.

"I have heard from Microsoft and I've actually heard from EA we probably won't see Mass Effect 1 ever on PS3," said Pachter, speaking on this week's GameTrailers.com Pach-Attack.

"I'm not sure that's true of Mass Effect 2 and I'm certain it's not true of Mass Effect 3, 4, 5 and 6.

"I think you'll see a Mass Effect game and extension of the franchise on PS3."

It's long been rumoured that Mass Effect 2, which released on Xbox 360 and PC earlier this year, will come to PlayStation 3, a rumour given credence thanks to lines of PS3 code found buried in the game.

At the time EA issued a "no comment", neither confirming nor denying that a PlayStation 3 version of the game was in development. Developers BioWare later said that the reason for the code's inclusion was due to the game running off of the multiformat Unreal Engine.

The developer recently confirmed that work on Mass Effect 3 was underway, but formats for the title are yet to be confirmed.

Damn. It would have been really nice for PS3 owners to get to play Mass Effect 3. Fortunately they all still have their state of the art gaming PCs.

It seems pretty retarded to think the third game in a trilogy will come to PS3 but not the first. I recon ME will be like Fallout and GTA DLC in that once they have all been released on 360, then they'll made available on PS3. Doesn't make sense not to open up a game to 30+ million users.

So what does everyone think about this? Is it probable to happen at all? or does Pachter know something we don't?

the way I understand Pachter's statement is that there is no deal between MS and EA for the future of the franchise, not that ME3 will definitely come to the PS3.

Thanks goodness.  I've already played both MEs on my PC - although it's not quite state of the art anymore (but it tries).
