I think a good mix of games would be:

Uncharted 2
NFS Shift
Metal Gear Solid 4
Bad Company 2
God of War 3
Assassin's Creed 2
Heavy Rain

Get god of war III and if possible, Assassin's Creed II

It's cool.  You don't need to have played Killzone 1 to enjoy 2.  Skip MGS 4 if you haven't played any of the priors.  Skip GTA if it's not your thing.  I would say get Killzone 2 and Uncharted 1.  Both amazing games and you get two games instead of one.  But if you really liked BFBC 2 at your friends house, get that.  I think Killzone 2 is better though, and you can throw in an extra greatest hits game of your choice.

Please keep in mind I haven't played any games yet for PS3, so If you recommend sequel keep in mind I haven't played the original. Example - Assassin's creed, Resistance, Uncharted, MGS, ect

All three games are good in my opinion , you did a good job for starters, i'd tell you to get Yakuza 3 and Demon's Souls later these are must haves

I was talking about Uncharted 1 - it is the greatest hits game, not the 2nd one

AC is a good game, I really enjoyed it, though a lot did not as it was repetitive, and even I found that it got repetitive, but hidden assassin blades!?!  Come on!!!

MGS I will agree - if you haven't played prior games skip that one :)

No mention for Oblivion and Fallout 3?  Those games you can sink 100 hours into easy if you are a completionist :)
