Forums - Sony - My PS3 has died, but it's not exactly the YLOD... *confused*

So... I've been scavenging the interwebz trying to find a fix for it, but alas, nothing has worked. My problem is very similar to what the guy in the following video had...

...but none of his fixes have worked for me, not even the one on the other video he has made.

So what I'm asking of you guys is suggestions. Should I try blowdrying it? That has seemed to work for some...

...but I'm not sure if it will work for me, since it's not the YLOD.

I simply want to salvage my game saves, but it seems I'm all out of luck. Sending it to Sony is not really an option, since the console is out of warranty and I'm not going to pay 180 euros to get a refurbished one and still be without my game saves. I'd rather sell it online in an auction for 100 euros more or less and buy a new, more reliable Slim. I will still call Sony tomorrow though and see what they can offer me.

If you want to add anything, please feel free to. Thanks.

SONY transfer save data to the new PS3 now starting with the PS3 to PS3 transfer filmware update

I'll explain then. When I press the On/Off button the console starts up and the green light is turned on without blinking. But the problem is that no image or sound is transmitted to the TV. And the console just sits there eternally turned on but doing nothing, fans on the lowest rotation level.

I've tried getting into the recovery mode, but to no avail. No method has worked for me. When I press and hold the On/Off button is only turns on and then off. No extra beeps to indicate reset of video settings and/or recovery mode entrance.

It's a perfectly quiet and monolythic 400 euros brick.

Xxain, my console would have to actually boot up its OS for me to be able to do that...

Sounds like something is preventing it from loading XMB, probably faulting before the video drivers are loaded thus no display telling of the problem.

Have you tryed the cables that come in the box?

I think Xain ment if you sent it to Sony they would be able to patch it up long enough to do a file X-fer to the unit they had planned on sending back to you.

Sony doesn't provide that kind of service, unfortunately.

I have also tried the cables that come with the console and the result was the same. Something inside the PS3 is not "clicking".

why do you hold the power button 5/10 secs after you turn it on.. you are only supposed to touch it once for a secound

mM

Holding for that long brings up the recovery mode menu, which allows one to format the hard drive, reset to default settings, scan the hard drive, etc.

My PS3 doesn't even bring that up though.

try resetting the setting press the power button for a long time. my doens't bring a menu, just reset the setting to the default one.
