Forums - Sony - new playstation sku/ with 45nm RSX

"$299 for at least another year" doesn't tell us what will be covered by that $299 price tag once Move is released. In all possibility $299 = PS3+1 DS3+PSEye+1 Move controller.

So $299 could be confirmation of a virtual price cut ($50 effective price cut on what you get now, but $50 added back onto the price for the Move device(s)).

$300 base Move sku at launch with higher priced skus containing additional controllers is a distinct possibility.

Sony could ditch the 120Gig sku except for the basic Move bundle and drop the 250Gig sku to $299 as the entry level non-Move PS3. Hence base pricetag remains at $299 regardless of whether you buy a Move bundle or the alternative 250Gig non-Move sku. Sony stays at the $299 price as stated yet still effectively delivers a price cut. In a year's time the unit profit margins should be good enough to look at a number of different pricing options.

i predicted the no price cut, the breaking even, and the reason for the shortages. pats self on back.

you can pat urself for Reason for shortages if you predicted it but hold the pat for breaking even, they could be profiting and no price, even if they wanted to do a pricecut it wouldn't happen in MAY.

So the new models won't hit until summer, huh?  What'll be up with supply until then?  120gb is currently out of stock on Amazon (just some third-party assholes are selling marked up units), Best Buy, Sony Style, perhaps others.  Maybe it'll just be temporary and they'll catch up with demand in an upcoming shipment.

This bothers me... I can never keep up with having the newest best piece of technology..

I was stoked about the 45nm cell in the ps3 slim, but now both CPU and GPU are 45nm.. Wow.

The info has been updated... apparently the GPU will be at 40nm, so it'll be a 45nm Cell / 40nm RSX unit.  Whoever heard of 40nm?!

while for GPU manufacturing, the "die shrink" usually first involves in shrink the die on a node not defined by the ITRS (for instance the 150 nm, 110 nm, 80 nm, 55 nm and more currently 40 nm nodes.

while in CPU's:

In CPU fabrications, it is noted that a "die shrink" always involves in an advance to a lithographic node

as by the ITRS:

example:

90nm to 65nm than to the 45nm nodes an so on.

there will most likely be no shortages as they begin shiping these.

they were waiting for this and now they can sell these to those consumers and even make a profit on it.

Well right now, and for a long time after Move is released, there are many more games you can only pay using the DS3 than you will be able to play with Move. So having a DS3-less PS3 seems a bit like selling a PC without a keyboard.

many of the games will get patch,i know all won't but you can play existing games with move and navigation.they have the same button and transmit it through bluetooth as DS3.it they wanna be more comfortable then they can buy it as is the same with Wii.

Most people would play new super mario bros with Wii mote but a hardcore who wants it to be more classic buys the Wii Classic remote.

and with RSX decreasing price and making profit on PS3,CELL 32nm coming in,DS3 out, blueray cost decrease,PSU decrease and other HW like die and other things.Sony will be easily able to fit in Move which would cost $25 max as it is same as DS3 with Sphere,Navigation $15 max,EYE $15 max and a first party game for free, they could even make it without a loss.
