Forums - PC - Help me pick out good RAM.

My old hunk of junk only has a gig of RAM, which just isn't hacking it anymore. I'm not super tech savvy though, so could somebody point me in the direction of some decent affordable RAM? I don't need anything huge, really I'd be happy just getting another gig. If it makes any difference I have a Dell Dimension DM061, and I'm running windows XP. Thanks for the help.

We'd need to know what kind of ram (ex- DDR2?) and it's speed to recommend you similar RAM to put in with your old RAM.

Actually I just found a good website that helped me out. Crucial.com allowed me to just put in my manufacturer, and model and told me what RAM I should get, and what my PC can handle.

My Dell Dimension E520 can hold 4 slots of DDR2 with a maximum of 1 gig per slot. It recomended the following, does this sound reasonable, or should I be getting something else? It says the price is 31 dollars.

1GB  240-pin DIMM

  • Module Size: 1GB
  • Package: 240-pin DIMM
  • Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
It said this about the manufacturers specifications of my PC.
  • Graphics Support:   PCI Express x16
  • Maximum Memory:   4096MB
  • Slots:   4 (2 banks of 2)
  • Standard Memory:   512MB removable
  • USB Support:   2.x Compliant

Should do you good right there. I went by the board Dell had posted. Hope it helps, However just call them and ask if it will work for sure before you but it Newegg is awsome with that stuff they wont be dicks about it.

As long as you get a named brand, all RAM of the same type, size and speed is the same. So, assuming you currently have 1GB of DDR2 667MHz, another 1GB of DDR2 667MHz from any named company is fine. So shop around with that spec.

    Any of these:

    Woah, you can download RAM?

How does this work? Is this some joke that would destroy my computer if I tried it?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

My tip is, don't trust people who say you need 8GB or even more RAM. Unless you do some sort of super multi-tasking (running 2 or more heavy programs at the same time), you won't need more than 4GB. Not even Crysis profits much from more than 4GB.
