Forums - Sales - PS3 and Xbox 360 gap soon to be just 4 million going by shipment figures

Finally, some one recognized what i have been saying since MS report was out. 360 seems to be overtracked in region OTHERS. The 1.2 million in retailers stock seems low and 360 didnt face any shortages recently.

10 weeks of sales is low?

Yes, compared to previous quarters (excluding holidays quarter), it is low.typically it is around the 1.8-2.0 million

Having 1.8-2 million consoles in the channel makes no sense in the slowest months of the year, because you don't want to have 4 months of products in stock.

its going to be an even match between the rest of this gen. sony will catch up and overtake 360 in the end but not by too much; maybe by 2-3 million and thats 2-3 years down the road as well.

the consoles are too similar to each other to really see one largely outsell the other

It will be interesting. The most the PS3 sold during this quarter since its launch is 2.2 million (in 2007), according to Sony.

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3_sale_e.html

VGC says it sold about 2.8 million in the last quarter. 33.5+2.8= 36.3 million (conservative numbers) total shipped as of March 31, 2010. Given the massive amount of shortages Sony had, I seriously doubt there are over 2 million consoles on the shelves. VGC will need massive adjustments or some really good explanation.

2011 Predictions

Wii: 17m (100 million total)

360: 13m (63 million total)

PS3: 15m (61 million total)

With the amount of shortages coming from sony this quarter I'm expecting a 1.5 to 2 mil this quarter for Sony

I don't think I've ever seen a console at 1.8-2 million in the channels.

1.2-1.3 is generally about right

Sony don't report shipped, Sony report ordered meaning the shortages shouldn't affect their figures in fact the shortages would mean they'd have a higher number of consoles in the "channel" because some of them haven't been made yet just ordered

Channel = number on store shelves + number in trucks/on boats on the way to shelves. Less stock on shelves means less difference between shipped and sold. Units that have been ordered but not have not left factories do not count as shipped

Thanks for the clarification and I'll still be expecting a number from 1.5 to 2 mil as that has been the usual range for Sony in this quarter.
