Forums - Sales - Microsoft: 40.2 million Xbox 360 units sold

Microsoft has released their fiscal data for the year and in this report they revealed that the Xbox 360 has sold over 40 million units worldwide since the consoles launch in 2005. In 2005 they sold a reported 5 million units and things have taken-off since then. With each seeing an increase over the last, Microsoft has managed to move a lot of units and looks to keeps things moving. The next milestone for the system will be 50 million and it looks like it'll reach that without much concern. Below, you'll find a year by year breakdown of the system sales.

So what do you think is this shipped amounts or real amount of consoles sold, and if so do you think x360 is over tracked or under tracked, please discuss, either way what is clear is the decline in sales since 2009.

It is shipped. It is always shipped. It will always be shipped. Asking that question is just going to cause a ton of head aches. The number are pretty close eyeballing it. I can't see much of an adjustment one way or the other.

lol incoming headache, all my fault hehe, lol anyways i don't agree lol seen as what ioi said last time it's normal for at least 1-2million units to be in warehouses or on shelves (etc)which means in my view it's over tracked, i could be wrong but that is why i wanted to discuss it and not accuse.

new slim coming. That is why there aren't that many Xbox 360s in the warehouse... cleaning out stock?!?!

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Pretty good quarter (1.5m) for the 360 as it is it's 2nd best 1st quarter(calendar)/3rd quarter(fiscal year) and the only better one was directly after launch (1.7m), which contradicts the reports MS was fading out the old models a bit.

According to VGC there were ~1.1m 360s in stock at the end of march, which I think is a little on the low side, especially because there are no reported shortages.

edit: hmm.. I noticed the source I used for 360 quarterly sales has a big difference to official FY results, so that statement above might be false after all - I'll see if I can find a better one

To reach their shipping forecast Sony has to report 2.2m+ PS3s this quarter, which would put the PS3 at 35.7m units shipped.

when is the slim coming?? i thought it might be a better idea to release it closer to the christmas holidays, it seems a bit silly to release it in the middle of the year

There is an 800k difference currently, and these numbers are only good through the end of March. We are 3 weeks into April, and sold 120k units this week. Taking that as average would mean 360k sold since the statement, and a difference of 1.16 million for sold vs shipped in the given time-frame. On the lower side of your range, but well with-in it.

well, the week ended 27th of march, so I'd say the difference is a bit under 1.1m, as there were 4 more days in march and 360 sold 149k that week - barely within the range
