Forums - Gaming - What games with horribile gameplay did you enjoy due to the story?

Can anyone here end up listing particular games they played through, and ended up enjoying, despite the fact the gameplay was horrible?  If it wasn't for the story, you would of officially given the game a thumb's down, and say it was trash as a game.   I am not speaking of point and click adventures, which don't have great gameplay, but usually do the job.  I am referring to a game with seriously broken play mechanics, but have an awesome story.  I wouldn't count derivative to a fault play mechanics either that work, just broken play mechanics.

Around the Network

Dirge of Cerberus... (aweful shooting aweful aweful game, but yuffie is hot)

That's about all I can think of

And... Hmmm Xenosaga edit (xenosaga is just direvitive I guess)

Operation Darkness >=)

heavy rain

unfortunately a great story could never ever substitute for bad gameplay....seeming its the reason we all play games. If the core is broke why play the rest of the game?.

well, I guess add farenheit (AKA Indigo proficy) Much much worse QTE events than heavy rain

God of War 1.....

I wouldnt call it horrible but it was definitely sub-par compared to NG and DMC but what it lacked in gameplay , it more than made up for it in pacing , story and presentation.

GOW1 is kratos in his prime and I hope Jaffe directs another GOW because the franchise needs him.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

because it's pretty and has a good story

but... basically i guess then you could count dirge of cerberus as a movie with torture in the middle. :D

I agree. If the gameplay is bad then it just turns out to be a frustrating experience and I won't finish the game.
