Forums - Sales - PS3 Already Ahead of 360?

Homeroids-- the 360's lead since sept 09 is largely the result of Xmas, where during the holidays the 360 blows the PS3 out of the water.

The PS3 is catching up though, I'm sure that in May when no big releases are out for the PS3, it will still beat the 360 with worldwide software.

any 360 fans disagree? koweniki? nightsurge? squilliam?

the PS3 sells more Software worldwide every week.  Even with the AAA games that we have got in the 1st quarter, the PS3 has still gained some within the past year or so, in fact it looks to permanently (until a price cut by the 360 that is) increase its weekly SW lead over the 360

Since we don't have precise numbers regarding failure rates, the above figures should be taken with a grain of salt.

Replacement consoles are still sales. You can't just subtract them and forget about them. Even if this article is right and 9 million 360 sales are replacements that doesn't change anything.

Really? In the case of Xbox 360, there seems to be a growing discrepancy between consoles sold and install base.

Example:
1) A new console is released. Two people buy it. Install base: 2
2) After the warranty is over, the console of one person breaks and they buy a replacement. Install base: 2

Well you could possibly be right about PS3 having a higher install base than Xbox 360; but Xbox 360 has undoubtedly sold more units which is more important to a console manufacturer.

yet it is still down by over 100,000,000 games.  Selling more software now doesn't take out the argument that if the 360 had a lower userbase that lower usuer basey bought over 100,000,000 more games than ps3 owners.  If ps3 software were to outsell 360 software by 1 million a week it would take over 2 years to pass it.

It may take 3 years, but it will probably still happen.

I as a ps3 owner have paid twice to have it repaired since it wasn't in warranty. According to this reasoning I would have bought a new console both times.
For the ps2 when mine broke down and I bought a slim I then sold the broken one to gamestop. Then the can fix it up and sell it again.
The selling of refurbished consoles doesn't add to the total user base. The one console can only be counted once. That would be like counting any sales of used consoles on eBay as an extra console sold. The manufacturer sold it to the retailer once. The console could chance hands 100 times after but it would still only be one console sold.

As many users already said, that's cause the PS3 has got a lot of titles they have been waiting for the whole generation.

And about AAA titles, just look at the CoD:MW 2 sales, it clearly shows the X360 user base is already active and buying games, lots of games ! The PS3 was able to close the distant with Final Fantasy (2 million in Japan) and other titles, but Cod:MW 2 clearly showd the X360 user base is active, so this topic is 100% biased and not real.

Sure, so you're saying that software is actually a better indicator of sales then? If so, it may still take longer for the PS3 to "beat" the 360, but the day is coming either way.
