Why should we trust loltaku on this?

My only complaint with Famitsu to this day stems from their 29/40 score for Demon's Souls.  One guy gave it a six because it was "too hard".  Dengeki scored it much higher, giving it 85/85/95/85.

And they also (surprisingly) overrate some western games.  Both Haze and Lair got mid-30s.  It's like they review them thinking, "well, this is what western gamers probably like."

Haze and Lair are for a Japanese based company, Sony.

Not saying anything against Sony, just seems odd that in recent months (years), during Japan's lag spell of software/hardware sales, that a Japanese review mag is reviewing Japanese games publishers high scores to boost sales.

But I don't know why we should not trust Kotaku over your complaints of Famitsu?

Haze has nothing to do with Sony.  It was a joint venture between Free Radical and Ubisoft, one that went ps3 exclusive because ps3 was the lead platform and Free Radical were bleeding money (and thus went bankrupt).

And unlike Haze, Demon's Souls was published by Sony.  The idea that one game scored high and the other scored low is because of Sony is ludicrous.

So what you saying is, a Japanese Review Magazine, gave a game a higher score because it was exclusive to who? Sony? and Sony is based in what country?

When Haze came out, Japanese games sales were even lower then they are now with the next gen consoles, so to give it a push etc etc..

EDIT POSTERs below me got my point bettter

Come on guys, do you really think this is any different than all the presents and free trips that western sites/magazines get from publishers? No.

But the question that i should ask as a gamer is this: Does Peace Walker deserve the 40/40 review score it got from Famitsu? Looking at how polished, creative, deep and innovative each new Metal Gear Game is, i'm not surprised if it DOES deserve a 40/40.

Kinda like how Famitsu gave Demon's Souls, Atelier Rorona, White Knight Chronicles, and Ar Tonelico 3 relatively low scores despite all being PS3 exclusives and two being published by Sony. I don't buy it.

Why would anybody try and push an FPS in Japan?  Let alone a crappy one like Haze?

Also, you're ignoring the fact that Demon's Souls, a game not only ps3 exclusive but also published and partly developed by Sony, recieved an unjustly low score from Famitsu.

I'm baffled that so many tie ins were done... and the only thing people can think to do is bash Kotaku.

I mean... this doesn't interest anybody? That they clearly have financial motivations for the game doing well?

I'm just saying it's the same as with all the hyped games in magazines in america as well. GTA4, Halo, ETC Because the magazines get lots of advertising from the publishers of those games.

The product placement, was because kojima thought it was funny, and he wanted money. if it irritates you enough to buy it, then don't buy it.

I'll put it this way.

Goldman Sachs was just charged by the SEC of a crime.  That crime was talking up some securities to investors, which were going to default and they were going to pay off for one of their clients.

This is essentially the same thing.

Kojima has been quite blunt about Peace Walker's tie-ins from the getgo.  It's merely humorous to me that Kotaku of all places has the gall to call out another rag over journalistic integrity.

That's quite irrelvent... tie ins are fine... tie ins with magazines that are supposed to be giving unbiased reviews of your product?  Seems... a bit out there.

Especially if you don't announce it in your review.

It's like selling people stock in a company you own when your pretending to be a nuetral consultant.

I'd think the advertisements plastered throughout the magazine have that covered.
