Actually, the 360 is already in third place if you allign launches.

Now I know some folks will dismiss such a comparison, so I'll also point at active installed base. There are millions of 360s out there that stopped working for plenty of reasons, be it RRoD or a disk read error.

In reality the PS3 is already ahead, but that's hard to accept for certain people.

Just wondering... is this "active installed base" taking into consideration the millions of ps3's not bought for gaming, but bought for blu ray use, therefore not considered "active" in terms of the context?

ps3 bought 4 blueray cant be compared to 360 bought as replacement.EVERY1 i know with 360 bought it 2 or more tiems, including

myself

Its a shame you and your friends didn't take advantage of the warranty for replacement. Could have saved you all some money. If it was for the RROD which has a 3 year warranty, and one died, you should still be sitting good til 2011 with your second console. Not sure why you all would have needed to buy 2 or more.

Maybe for me. I think the 360 is looking good to say ahead but it seems very reliant on US so I always feel that if Sony can get Others and Japan working even more in its favour it might just squeak past 360 in the end.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Depends for how long, I'll bet that in the long term ps3 will lead, but the will be very closeto each other none-the-less

many people had to buy a new one cause their waranty expires but 1 milion is too much

I'd say about 200k max worldwide.

I think the answer to the question is 'Yes' - if Microsoft want it to be. They are in control, and as long as the launch of Natal goes well, I can't see the PS3 getting ahead... unless GT5 is even more of a sales monster than we already know it will be =)

Foresight? They lost the profit of the entire PS2 era on the PS3. It is billions in the hole. It will take it's 10 year lifecycle to break even. You call that foresight?

"In the end PS3 will get ahead as usual."  or that the 360 wouldn't be stronger worldwide "not now not ever"?

I hate to tell you, but look how far the PS3 is behind the 360. Same picture as 3 years ago. Sony has only won a single generation over Microsoft, and Microsoft took them down several pegs this generation. The only introduction that noone cares about is PS Move - Natal is actually poised to move some consoles.

Foresight indeed. Blu-ray (and now 3D) was an inevitable step that Sony would have had to take in this gen or the next in order to stay ahead of the competition, despite the cost. That foresight allowed Sony to see where the multimedia entertaiment was headed and it allowed them to capitalize from it. They may or may not be doing so now, but they definitely will, in the latter part of the PS3's lifecycle and with the PS4. MS will also have to make a similar jump at some point, because pre-rendered cinematics will still be around regardless of what you expect. If they go the Blu-ray route, it's royalties (win) to Sony. And digital distribution would see their next iteration go the way of the PSP Go. Internet speeds are simply not up to the task at the moment, and won't be for at least a decade. MS will eventually land at a crossroads, and what will they do? Bow to the competition or stick with "old" tech?

I highly doubt Sony will be introducing a new format with the PS4. The associated costs would be far too great, not to mention Blu-ray will still be in its infancy stage. All that will be focused on are the graphics card and the processor. The PS3 behind the 360? I think you're speaking too soon here, this gen is far from over. If anything, the PS2 should exhibit the rigidity that Sony has when it comes to keeping its products in the market. Its floppy disk support is a good example of this too (sadly, one that will soon come to an end). I'm curious to see if MS deals with this differently, this time around.

Noone cares about the Move? How did you come to know of this? I ask the same about your opinion, that Natal is going to move more consoles than the Move? Guesswork has no place in such a discussion.

I hope the 360 stays in front of the PS3 for as long as possible and prove the doubters wrong again. The 360 is not going to give up without a fight and Microsoft has a few more tricks up its sleeve. 360 Slim, Halo:Reach, Gears of War 3, Project:Natal and Milo. More price cuts and possible revision of the XBox 360 with a system upgrade.

Doubters? What am I doubting?

"360 slim"? ... Please, new PS3 slim.

"Halo: Reach"? ... C'mon, GT5.

"Gears of war 3"? ... Killzone 3!

"Project: Natal"? ... MOVE out of the way.

"Milo"? ... The what now?

"More price cuts"? ... More price cuts!

"Possible revision of the 360 with a system upgrade"? I just hope they won't be taking any other features away.

Oh and ... ditto for the PS3.

PS3 Will Be King By 2016.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

These holidays we'll have a good picture.

I think it all depends on when the next gen systems are launched. If Microsoft decides to launch their new system in late 2011 I think there is a good chance that the 360 will stay ahead because they will probably do a aggressive price cut before announcing and releasing a new system which will spark sales.

I think 360 could stay in the lead, certainly possible when you consider price cuts, etc.  I personally, however, think Sony will at least completely catch-up (WW) before the end.
