it cant, it only sells in America, is dead in Japan

And Japan has by far the smallest impact in sales by a huge huge margin.

^true, but I bet MS would love to have that smallest impact the PS3 has of 5 million consoles there...I think they are still trying, so it's safe to say they're interested.

What I am saying is that the ps3 is more futureproof than the competition which makes the term "future-proof" viable in this debate, since the more future-proof something is the longer it can carry on selling for!!!

Therefore your comment is invalid...

Well... if we are talking about relative "future proof"ness then...

It will likely be the least "future proof" the day next gen systems launch, thereby rendering the basis of your reasoning.... invalid.

make no sense at all

Why are people still talking about 10 year plan and futureproof? This was, is and will be PR-talk and nothing else.

The customer decides which console will have the longest lifetime. The Xbox was more futureproof than the PS2 and the PS2 won. The PSP is more futureproof than the DS and the DS is winning big time.

There is no such thing like futureproof. The proof is the cutsomer and you can't force them to support your product. The Wii is raping the Xbox 360 and the PS3 today, even though it is the console with the worst hardware (technically).

And the 10 year plan is just another PR quote. I think the PS2 just turned 10 years old a few days ago. The major support for the console stopped 4 years ago. The PS2 still sells decent numbers, but it is far from being relevant today. It dominated its generation like no other console before so why do you think the PS3 will last as long as the PS2 when it might end up selling only 40% of the PS2? It still could be in 3rd place by then. Why should a 3rd placed console sell longer than the no. 1 and 2? It might be technically better in some points, even though the gap is tiny for none hardcore gamers, but the customer does not see the value in it. He did see the value in the PS2 and does see the value in the Wii though. We have to agree that the demand for a Wii is higher than for a PS3.

3 years from now on:

Do you think retailers will drop the Wii, even though the demand is still there, and support the PS3 with less demand, because it is technically superior?no, but they will drop the wii because nintendo will, and focus only on the next console, and they will support the ps3 because sony will still be making them imo

Do you think Sony won't launch a new console just after MS and Nintendo released their new machines? Sure they will

Do you think Sony will support the PS3 after the PS4 AND the PSP 2 launched?nooo I mean it's not like they supported the ps2 4 years after the ps3 OH WAIT!!!

SO please: It is not the manufacturer who decides how long a console will last, it is the customer. You can't make 10year plans when the customer does not want you product 6 years later. And futurproof is something that the customer want and not a new technology. uhhhh

OT: It could be that the PS3 catches the XBox 360 and it could be the Xbox 360 stays ahead, but it won't be because of a 10yr plan and "futureproof" technology. that's exactly why, no matter where the 360 ends, as soon as the next gen xbox launches the 360 is going to be dropped like a rock, ps3 however will keep going and going and going and going.......... etc.

stop hating son SONY, they say ten year plan, how long did the ps1 last?...................how long did the ps2 last? saying the ps3 won't do the same make you a blind fanboy.

I don't think the 360 will stay ahead cause i think ps3 is more future proof with blu-ray and the cell processor, however only time will tell if the 360 can keep up or not

I always think statements like this are funny, since digital distribution is the future, and absolutely nothing is moving towards the cell.

Yeah because Multicore is never gona get big, what with big hot power hungry single core CPU's being all the rage right now.  And AND Im also totally  looking forward to downloading 100GB 7.2 1080p PS4 / xbox720 games.

Actually, the 360 is already in third place if you allign launches.

Now I know some folks will dismiss such a comparison, so I'll also point at active installed base. There are millions of 360s out there that stopped working for plenty of reasons, be it RRoD or a disk read error.

In reality the PS3 is already ahead, but that's hard to accept for certain people.

Just wondering... is this "active installed base" taking into consideration the millions of ps3's not bought for gaming, but bought for blu ray use, therefore not considered "active" in terms of the context?

I don't know if Ps3 passing the 360 would really be wooping it's ass. more like running over the foot guy with a cane while in a wheel chair.

No saying that means you realize that the PS3 is not the PS1 or PS2, so really its up in the air.

And why do you think the 360 is gonna be dropped like a rock when the next Xbox comes out?  Just because they did that with the original Xbox doesn't mean they will with the 360 (Hint: MS was losing massive amounts of money on the original xbox because of the Harddrives they had in it, that is pretty much the only reason they dropped the Xbox as soon as the 360 landed)

The SNES actually was still build till 2003 (!!!) 13 years after its release and 7 years after the release of the N64 and 2 years after the Gamecube. The Wii is even more successful, so why do you think they will drop this one?

Do you think Sony won't launch a new console just after MS and Nintendo released their new machines? Sure they will

Do you think Sony will support the PS3 after the PS4 AND the PSP 2 launched?nooo I mean it's not like they supported the ps2 4 years after the ps3 OH WAIT!!! That is because the PS2 sold massive amounts of hardware and software. It was THE leader of its gen without any doubt. The PS3 on the other hand is in last place and will never sell 60% of that.

SO please: It is not the manufacturer who decides how long a console will last, it is the customer. You can't make 10year plans when the customer does not want you product 6 years later. And futurproof is something that the customer want and not a new technology. uhhhh

WHY?! You have no point at all. You are simply relying on PR-Talk and personal taste. There were some problems with the old Xbox, especially with the HDD and Nvidia. That is why it was discontinued so early. The Xbox 360 will sell just as long as the PS3, not because MS said it will last 10yrs and 1 day, but because the demand for the Xbox 360 is more or less the same as for the PS3. Again the customer decides.

stop hating son SONY, they say ten year plan, how long did the ps1 last?...................how long did the ps2 last? saying the ps3 won't do the same make you a blind fanboy.

I am not hating Sony, but PR-talk is not the truth. Whoever said it.
