Forums - Gaming - So, I was playing this one game and I realized how low gaming has become...

you can borrow my team machine and together we could go back in time and play retro games!
OR you could just play PS2 games now and when the PS4 comes out play a game on there then play PS3 and the state of gaming will look amazing right now

TBH i think gaming is getting better...but then again i also think that Uncharted 2 is the best game ever

(and it is!)

So what RPG's tooday are 11 hours?

Mass Effect 1

Did you play Mass Effect?

I played it on easy skipping almost every sidequest and using a FAQ and I believe my playthrough was probably around 12 hours (I'd have to go back and look) but I wouldn't count that as the play time.  Actual play time for that game is around 20.

mine was 18, but that's basically your 20

Bioware, Also If I remember Jade Empire was 12 or 14 I don't remember

I didn't like that trend from bioware of creating shorter Games, but they destroyed that trend with Dragon Age :P

Any playtime estimate is going to be an average, so +/1 10% isn't so bad.  :-p

I've played many many RPGs in my days (Mostly Japanese ones). I've seen ONE shorter than 20 hours long. This makes no sense to me.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Thank God developers don't listen to you OP

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yeah, my played time came in around 20 hours after doing nearly every sidequest. I deliberately made the game last longer as I could sense the end coming. I bet I could speedrun the game in under 10 hours.  I was horrified by how short the game was but I still liked it. I do think that Dragon Age is a lot better though.

Not the music! I was sad they changed the music in ME2. ME2 was the best dissapointment I ever had (it wasn't really a dissapointment) :P

I know you're talking about dragon age. but i had to uhh, not make sense

The music was fucking awesome in Mass Effect, some of the best music ever in a VG. In Mass Effect 2 they went with some generic forgettable sci-fi music.

11 hours on a PS2 RPG game for 1 dungeon. That's slightly longer than the length of time it takes to complete most RPG's today.

I never realized just how bad the amount content went down with newer gaming systems.

 It's kind of sad really...

This has been the case ever since it peaked with the Snes(end of) and the early PS1 days. While a few gems show up, most game content in the terms of continuing gameplay has dropped. This generation was a steady decline it was a plunge. Just comes down to where do you allocate content. Fancy game graphics or gameplay content? Last generation masses have spoken they want graphics. This gen clearely people are saying. WTF? I want both. Next gen people will probably get game content.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
