Well isn't kinda obvious that a dev would say "There's no screen tearing in game" rather than "Yeh we've got some screen tearing issues"? Who in their right mind would say that?

They can guarantee no screen tearing by V-syncing. Although in a game this graphically demanding there's usually a straight choice for developers - v-sync or frame rate drops - if you have a free roaming camera, occasionally the user is going to point it such a way that it taxes the hell out of the engine.
We shall see, but either way it looks awesome.
^Of course. 720p and 4xMSAA means tiling, though, so with all those long-distance shots and trees I didn't consider v-sync as an option, as the frame drops in camera panning would likely be worse on the eye than minor frame tear.
Update: actually, they already stated on their forums as much:
"While playing Alan Wake on a Xbox 360, if the game framerate drops below 30 FPS we resort to screen tearing (same idea as Gears of War uses)."
^^ Fair point.
We'll find out one way or another once digital foundry get their hands on it
EDIT Good find! I was expecting them to start dropping the AA level when things got too busy, RE5 style
^AA is more critical for the image quality than in RE5, because they use alpha-to-coverage on all that foliage. Drop the AA and you're in for a lot of noise and shimmering. Again, it's probably more pleasant to the eye to just fall back on a little screen tearing, given the game setting and style.

No, not at all. They didn't have to dignify random internet squabbiling with a response. What do you mean no-win situation?

Speaking of damage control lol. No offense not that it should offend you because you didnt develope the game.Lighting shining through windows stationary and some red lighted eyes reflecting off walls againts full motion lighting on large scales in massive maps i call that putting something to shame. It makes kz2 seem last gen. |
lol? seriously nothing that will come out for the rest of this gen will make KZ2 seem last gen...nothing. There will be games that will beat it, but make it seem last gen is just ridiculous
