Not to nitpick, but the thread title is putting in developers' mouths words they did not say, and that can later come to bite back. What they did say is that the extreme degree of screen tearing and the choppy framerate seen in the videos came from the capturing - which I thought was obvious to anyone watching it, but it seems like I'm too nice :)
They don't say that there's "NO screen tear in Alan Wake". Most games have some unless they're triple buffered, after all, and it can be measured objectively (see DF quantitative measures). Still, some kinds of screen tear are less striking to the naked eye than others, so the effect on perceived image quality can be pretty minimal.
