Forums - Nintendo - The price of Nintendo Wii tumbles in the UK

It is because video gaming software and hardware does not sell very well in supermarkets or bookshops compared to shops such as GAME or Gamestation (even though Gamestation is now part of GAME).

This doesn't make sense... 155.56 pounds is about 240 US dollars. So its STILL $40 higher than what we pay for the Wii in the US. Theoretically, it can drop more to meet the equivalent of the American price.

No. It is including taxes, unlike the US price. Removing taxes it works out to $203-$208 (I forget the exact VAT in the UK).

So basically it's the same price as the US.

Oh, rainBOWS, I like those.

So, the price drop now makes it roughly the same price that it's officially been sold at in the US for the past 6 months or so, I'm still failing to see the OMGWTFBBQ factor here

wow I just found out a euro is worth 28cent more than a us dollar so if wii was 200euros it would be 256us dollar, I think nintendo should have a price drop over their............

now wonder why others dont sell like america

Mid year in the UK has been like this for several years regarding the Wii.
Prices go down, lots of preowned ones in stores well below retail price, then come Christmas not a Wii to be seen and the ones that are available are above RRP or part of a £300 package

In the UK, £140 is very cheap for a games console - hopefully it will encourage more to buy it.

When we were still at £1=$2 we were putting the US to shame (ex taxes), a situation I've never seen in my lifetime.

Everyone in europe should be buying from the UK if they can handle the whole language thing.

I don't expect many people from countries like France or Germany (where games are usually translated, amirite?) to buy games in another language, but for smaller countries, almost all games are in English anyway (at most the booklet and back cover are translated).

I wouldn't but plenty do given that English is a second language for a lot of Europeans especially if prices can be half what you currently pay. On Topic the article is bullshit. Wii in the UK didn't get a price drop like the rest of the world, it had WSR/M+ bundled instead.

Wii on its own soon dropped to £140 once the WSR bundle (£180) was announced. If the average was £155 then some idiots were still paying £180 when they could have had WSR thrown in for free. Not suprised WHSmith effed up. They've been in trouble for years. WHSmith is kept alive by its airport/train station "monopoly".
