I know you don't want to hear this

But what kind of discipline was leveled against your niece for tormenting this dog?

None.

That is atrocious.

I mean.... that

You realize that at the cor your family has killed this dog, right?

I totally agree with you here Khuutra and it is very sad.

I think my parents may change their minds when they find out about the law here in NY.

Animal Control is going to come take him regardless and evaluate him. If he isn't ordered to be put down he will labeled as a dangerous animal.

Now, if god for bid he ended up biting her, or anyone else again, my parents would face a $1000 fine and 90 days in jail.

Something for them to think about.

Gah. Your brother/sister just let there two year old beat on a 10 year old rott?

Not smart. But, what's done is done. Tell your "animal loving family" that they did this to the animal, by allowing it to be tormented to the point of attack, and get rid of the dog.

How can people say they love animals, and then watch a 2 year old hit it with a stick repeatedly? Odd.

Agreed, this family's irresponsibility caused the issue.

Even though it is my family we are talking about here... I have to agree.

Now a little girl who people would stop and say: "Your daughter is so pretty" is going to get stared at instead due to a droppy eyelid that covers half her left eye while the right remains wide open as usual.

Indeed extremely weird how someone who loves their dog didn't take any steps to stop the kid. Also how anyone who knew anything about dogs (and after 10 years of owning a dog, one really should) left her do that.

But like it was said, what is done is done. Hopefully the healing process will go fine and the kid won't have to suffer for that in future because when a 2 y/o is spoiled and irresponsible, it all comes down to the people taking care of her.

I pity the dog. And I care about animal rights a fair bit. But in a human society, I believe the safety of humans comes first.

Yeah, and if animal control is taking the dog it'll be in an unfamiliar, safe yet mostly unfriendly environment and it will know that you are all basically giving him away. It wont last long there but that's what comes from this kind of thing

I guess it's some small mercy that this happened when the dog was old.

But God, that poor girl's face, all because her parents didn't stop her from beating the dog with a stick

Yes. He is uncomfortable in situation with unfamiliar people, unless those people are invited into the home.

Only a year ago we had to bring him to the vet to perform surgery on a double hernia, poor dog couldn't walk at all and his anus was protruding. He was an angry son of a bitch in that Vet Office.

Yea, it sucks. Sorry about it all. I mean you have had this dog in your family for 10 years, and it's hard. But in the end, it is a dog. I would think the wellbeing of you niece should trump anything with respect to an animal.

I have a dog, and love it very much. If it did that to my niece, I would take it out back and shoot it. Then again, I would never let anyone treat my dog like your niece was allowed to treat your parents dog.

I hope everything works out for your family.

Glad she is OK, but you can't let kids do that to animals, they should be taught better. I think you would almost have to put the dog down or give it away now.

The most he ever did before this was maybe growl a bit if she bothers him or simply walk away from her.

This was the first time I ever heard of her hitting him with stuff, and he didn't even attack her while she hit him, it was over an hour later.
