Microsoft Israel R&D Center had their yearly Think Next convention yesterday, where Dr. Ilan Spillinger, Microsoft VP Hardware and Technology, showcased a live presentation of Project Natal on stage. This is how Project Natal’s camera sees you while you play games.

The camera can detect the gender, body movement and distance of different players.

What an idiot, she gets to play with new motion sensing tech, what does she do?

Stands and moves really slowly with her arms out?!?!?!

I'd jump about and dance, what's the point in motion sensing if you're just gonna stand about like a blummin tree?

What if you are a guy and have man boobs? If it detects me as a woman it's going through the wall...

EDIT: At 1:34 I noticed some noticable delay when the dude jumped to when he did on the screen..

Hopefully not many natal games will require split second timing... oooh... snap!

Not any new info here, is interesting seeing exactly what the camera detects though, not just the software generated shape.

I'm not sure it actually detects gender. Manboobs aside, it can work extremely bad for children.

The two probably already had their avatars on the system, and a Natal photo/collection of photos to go with them and be correctly recognized and mapped to their avatar when using the system.

it seem to detect points in the body.Does it also detect the fat movement?

This thing is going to release in less than a year and this is the best they can do for a tech demo. Also talk about the lag, when the lady is raising and lowering her arms you can definitely see lag.

Lag seems to be similar to what we can see from Move videos... noticeable but not that bad.


Let the shovelware battle begin ! Seriously, I'm worried about playing games without any controller at all...

theres definitely lag.... theres no such thing as one to one...

It most likely detects gender based on bone structure.  Looks great.  Thanks for the video.
