Forums - Sony Discussion - Demon's Souls Sells Triple What Atlus USA Expected!

We know Demon’s Souls and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona were hot items. Thanks to Atlus USA’s localizations, Atlus Ltd reported a notable bump in operating profit.

Now we know how well. Parent company, Index Holdings (note: Atlus is a fully owned subsidiary of Index Holdings) posted interim sales figures of Atlus’ products. In Japan, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable sold above expectations. Atlus planned 170,000 units. Actual sales were 225,000 units. Meanwhile, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey was slightly underweight. Atlus expected 170,000 units too, but Strange Journey only sold 152,000 units. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, released on October 8, had an extra month of sales on Persona 3 Portable which Atlus brought to retail in November 1.

Atlus USA had a modest goal of 35,000 for Shin Megami Tensei: Persona. The remastered PSP game sold 49,000 units in North America. Good, but not quite Demon’s Souls. Atlus planned to sell 75,000 copies of Demon’s Souls in North America. The critically acclaimed game surpassed three times that number with 280,000 units in sales by the end of their second fiscal quarter, February 28, 2010.

101 in 1 Party Megamix is the other pleasant surprise for Atlus USA. European publisher Nordcurrent gave Atlus the rights to publish the Wii mini-game compilation. Atlus USA expected to sell 100,000 copies while the game sold 189,000 units in the market.
