Forums - General - Vatican comment on paedophiles draws gay groups' anger

The point I was trying to make is that it's not certain they actually had access to girls even. Historically, as far as earlier sexual abuse goes (unless you'd assume it's a very recent affair), catholic priests would have little to none contact with adolescent girls. In more recent cases - maybe. In orphanage cases, probably.

My mum went to a catholic school. So did her brother - to different catholic schools, and those were not mixed. My mum's teachers were mostly (if not exclusively, not 100% sure on that one) women. The opposite for my uncle (all men). A molesting priest at a boys school would have some difficulty keeping a 90% girls ratio. A molesting nun is more of a porn flick material.
That was in the mid 50s-early 60s.

However I still remember the local catholic choir from the mid-80s, and it was also an all boys choir. There was a mixed choir for the adults and probably a girls choir too. Well, that's about the last time I went to church and the last I remember, hence I was trying to google how mixed schools and similar were spread on a popularity timeframe.

Once again, that's not how pedophilia works. Pedophiles are VERY discerning. They just don't rape kids, they rape not only one gender but usually a specific type of kid.

Orthodox church doesn't fall under Protestant churches at all... but yeah, they are sort of allowed to marry (before becoming priests, not allowed to remarry if widowed, bishops not allowed to marry and maybe some more restrictions).

And sources say it isn't pedophilia for the most part. Under the age of consent doesn't equal pedophilia.

Still doesn't change the fact that the Catholic church has really awful human beings in their organization.

Maybe when you ban your priests from marrying, they develop awful desires like pedophilia?

I find it oh-so strange that we don't have these vast, world-spanning problems in the protestant church which has nearly the same membership as the Catholic church. Yes, there are pastors that do plenty of stupid things, but its rarely something as heinous as pedophilia. Usually, its consensual sex among adults (either adultery or homosexuality).

I think it's more that... if you aren't aloud to marry someone, most people aren't going to want to become preists, so it's up to the asexual, people who aren't going to get married (gay) or people who are ashamed of their sexuality. I had a guy i worked with who used to be a catholic priest who was a bit burned out... and he was looking for other work, which was hard because despite being a really hard worker, skilled and smart he didn't really have any job expierence people took seriously so he was just a temp I generally could keep calling back whenever i needed. Nice guy though... eventually he just went back because he couldn't find work and they were literally beating his door down because they've ALWAYS got openings for priests. The sad part was, due to how the Catholic Church works he wasn't aloud to stay in cleveland which he loved despite many opening because the church kinda "assigns" you to a territory and I guess your just stuck there... and instead he had to go back to Philedelphia.

Fine, that's not how hebephilia works... happy?

Also, another thing to note... according to the available data... priests are actually LESS likely to sexually abuse young people then the regular population.

The real issue is just the coverup.

Doesn't that defeat the point? If they are married to God why would they need anybody else?

To stick their penises in, of course.

Marriage doesn't stop molestation. Most molestation happens within families, with married couples and such

Don't you know God is everywhere? So whereever they stick their dicks they are putting their penises in God.
