Forums - Sony - How will Sony respond to Gears of War 3?

they shouldn't respond!
they should make the games they are good at making , not copy cats! look at nintendo.. .when they make something to compete against the HD consoles it fails, when they make something unique it succeeds , same with sony and microsoft.

I believe it is bad for SONY to respond to a FPS with a FPS and a TPS with a TPS back in the 6th Gen SONY would respond to XBOX FPS and TPS with 3rd Person Action Games and JRPGs and such you don't need to respond in the same genre.

I don't think we'll see any game from Sony in April of next year. Maybe a game in February/march but none in April and I don't even think Sony cares that theres a gears 3 either. I'm guessing R3 will release in november if anything. Thats usually when Insomniac release there games and maybe David Jaffes game will release in February. Also I reckon Killzone 3 is a long way away before we get to see it. If its not at E3 then its not releasing then.

Sony won't counter with anything specifically. GT5 was post-poned so it can minimize the impact Natal and a slim 360 can possibly have, but that is perfectly reasonable since they have their own slim console launch effect as an example though.

Gears has always been a November release until now.  We haven't heard anything about R3 yet so I highly doubt it'll come out this year.  I'm thinking it'll come out either Spring at the same time as Gears or in the Fall.  I remember all the hype about Gears 2 vs R2 a couple years ago and they both ended up getting outsold by COD WAW.  Looks like MSFT wants to steer clear from COD this time even if it's a Treyarch title and of course they want to space it out from Halo: Reach.

I don't think Resistance has the clout or quality to really compete against Gears. Maybe KZ3, but I think they'll do something different. Rather than have two shooters duking it out I think they'll have a different type of game... or they'll let Gears3 have that month to avoid having a good title get crushed for no real gain or purpose.

Sorry Modern Warefare blows, if both companies combined it would tear down Naughtydogs awesome legacy! Treyarch is a much better development team than Infinty Ward! Now Naughty Dog and Dice or Crytek would be awesome or even Guirrilla Games, Sucker Punch, Sony Santa Monica or Insomniac would work awesome together. Ubisoft as well!

Well R2 released in November of 2008 and it made its first appearance at E3 in 2008. Also Every single Rachet and Clank game released at the very end of October or the start of November. The same thing with Resistance 1 and 2. Thats how Insomniac do things. Even Disruptor and the Spyro games released end of october/ early November

maybe they will Respond with...Gears Of War 3?

Kind of a silly thread...

Why?  It's a perfectly logical question.  Seeing as how Sony has 2 exclusive shooters on the way that both could be ready by next April, it'd make sense that they release one of them at the same time as Gears.

Why would sony dance to the beat Microsoft is setting with releases. MS seems to do its own thing and really don't look at what Sony is doing...Nintendo espeically do their own thing.

If Insomniac have good ideas to make another Resistance game, and the game ends up being finished by April 2011...then sure, release it. Otherwise, why would sony rush to match Gears 3 with its own shooter and canibalize their own sales.

If anything they can release something like Last Rebelion and appeal to a different crowd...

If you look at their release schedules historically, Msft and Sony have strategically released their exclusives around the same time as each other to directly compete.  R1 vs Gears1.  R2 vs Gears 2.  LBP vs. Fable 2.  KZ2 vs Halo Wars. MAG vs ME2. Heavy Rain vs Splinter Cell (until it got delayed).  I know the last two aren't Microsoft first party titles but I'm sure since they were exclusives that MSFT had some say in the release date.

This strategy isn't unique to just Sony vs. Msft.  Competing sports titles usually come out on the same day.  Last year we saw inFamous and Prototype come out around the same time.  Call of Duty and Medal of Honor are both coming out this fall.  I could go on and on.

Bottom line is that I would be very surprised if Sony doesn't schedule one of its two big shooters to come out next spring to compete with Gears 3.  Hopefully we hear something at E3

Gears is not a MS first party title either
