I thought it was confirmed that it was in?

I'm confused.

The sad thing is, would this be a $8 XBLA game it would feature multiple online modes, but as a $50 Wii game it will not.

Not saying it should be XBLA, but how can you expect people buying this overpriced shit? Come on EA!

If this gives me, let's say 80 to 100 hours of fun with my friends, and Red Steel 2 or God of War 3 gives me about 15 to 20 hours of fun solo, which one is overpriced?

It all depends on your perspective.

I haven't mentioned Red Steel or God of War in my post, as those are irrelevant to this topic. Those are singleplayer games. NBA Jam is a multiplayer game, which needs online to justify the $50 pricetag for a lot of people.

95% of all XBLA multiplayer games offer offline and online multiplayer, and those are around $8 - $10 per game. So why can't a $50 retail Wii game?

@Nordlead: yes, it's confirmed to be a retail release.

I mentioned them because of the amount of fun and enjoyment I could derive from each title equates directly to its worth as a product.

Wii games are generally built around local multiplayer. I know that is how I will spend the bulk of my time on this title. If you don't enjoy local multiplayer, or are unfortunate enough to not have friends that would enjoy a game of NBA Jam, then keep your $50. Simple.

~although I don't think they will sell this title at $50. Likely $30-$40, but $50 does remain an option, and in all likelihood, I would still purchase it at that price, simply because this would be a game I would continue to play for as long as I had a Wii.

**Edit: I would also like to point out that at no time did I say I did not want an online mode. In fact, it would seem to be a silly decision not to include one. But, it is not a make or break inclusion for me.

I'm just saying, people will look at this game, $50 and no online, and look at similar games, NHL 3v3 for $8 with online, and will decide the game is not worth it.

Sure, some people, like you, will buy the game because online is not a big deal to them. But I assure you, the game is going to bomb hard if the game really is $40 - $50 with no online. Its a matter of perceived value by the customers and how it compares to similar games.

I can agree with the perceived sentiment value, but the fact remains that there is very little that could currently compete with it on Wiiware or Virtual Console. Unless I am mistaken, this game has only been announced for the Wii, so it is in no way competing with XBLA online titles.

Certainly there are those that own both a Wii and a PS3 or 360, but they are in the minority, and I would think already do the bulk of their sports game purchases on the HD consoles anyway. So, they are likely a market that EA is not too concerned about.

I cant even believe they would think of making this game without online

Making a sports game without online is surprising.
But then again, since it would run on EA servers -- it would be gone within two years as a feature.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
