Forums - Gaming - Why Shooters Are Better on Wii

I can see Rocketpig is on fire today. Keep up the good work.

@Rocketpig: For the Wii online, i'd like to point out that it shares a common problem with PC online, which is that the devs are in control of what the online play will be like and how it's featured. In the end, this is also a matter of game budget.

@jneul: And you think the devs will be happy with Move? You know what's are big problems for Move?
It breaks the compatibility between PS3 and 360, so they either have to focus on pad controls of both platforms separately.
In online play, if either control system is giving advantage over another, they have to aid/cripple the other method to make the play fair. Sounds simple, but it isn't.

And what Rocketpig is talking about is, that the installbase for Move isn't likely going to be big. If the games being ported from Wii aren't getting people to buy a Wii, they aren't going to get people to buy Move either, not to talk about PS3 and Move.

BTW, way to pull up the "daddy" card. Trust me, I'm way older than you and I buy my own goodies, kiddo. If you REALLY want to play that, you just picked the wrong poster.

Than if you really are, I'm sure you can find better ways to spend your time than actually going around aimlessly flaiming poeple.

lol point and shoot games rule, ps move will join the party soon, the wiimote has new competition

Thanks for your input. Coherent speech goes a long way in life... /drippingsarcasm

lol dripping sarcasm, does that even exist or did you just make it up??
Anyway like it or not the ps move is competition to the wiimote, and it all starts witha game called Socom 4 followed by RE5, ah it's so nice to know we are getting hardcore games for the Ps Move.

Do you really think that an add-on for a third place console is really going to make developers jump on ship?

Lol they already have started making games for the ps move, just look at the official thread to see just how many games have been made so far in just a little time, some of them admitedly will be better than others for example I expect Socom 4 to be one of the better offerings, no doubt it will have it's own shovelware as well like move party.

Sorry developers are not just happy with wii, hence incoming wii ports for a small time, if they are successful, we can expect to see more resource's dedicated to ps motion games.

When I see a real third party game built around Natal or Move, I'll eat these words.

The thing is that I'll never eat these words and you'll be long gone before you admit that you're wrong.

The reason there arn't more 3rd party games being made for wii is mostly due to the fact that 3rd party titles do not sell on wii.  If they made a mario warfare or yoshi: combat evolved they may be able to sell some.  Well ok that's a lie, because wii appeals to casual gamers and children (mostly) so a hardcore shooter is never going to sell on wii anyway.

Honestly it's too early to say if developers will jump on board with move, but remember there is nothing stopping them from adding move support to a game that uses standard controls too.  It doesn't have to be a case of one or the other.

Totally agree, light gun Shooters are best on wii....as they only work on Wii.

For real shooters, unless the reticle is dead center then it ain't a real shooter, but a light gun shooter with the ability to move around.
I say this because a real shooter doesn't need bounding boxes in order to turn the camera, a real shooter gives the user direct control of the camera hence the reticle being dead center each and every time.

@eggs2see: Actually, that's the fallacy that prevents the devs from succeeding on Wii. They think that the games need no substance.

Nothing prevents the devs from adding Move support, but if the games just support Move, without being exclusive to it, this prevents Move from succeeding. And that's why the success of Move depends on what kind of games Sony is putting on it.

PC beats Wii and any other console by a mile, I mean, how tiring and unattractive will it be to hold the wii mote aloft for hours?

                                       That's Gordon Freeman in "Real-Life"

Well let's compare pc vs wii for fpses:

On the pc we have:
- most accurate control scheme
- best looking graphics among all platforms

On the wii we have:
- inferior version of mouse which can't even turn properly
- worst graphics among all current gen platform

So yeah that must be making the best shooter platform today :D And this superiority is certainly proven when you check how many 80+ ranked shooters the Wii has.

@Zledeji: Actually, Wii Remote is more accurate than a mouse.

Snappy comeback.

...

Really?

Here's my life story. I majored in illustration. I became a graphic designer. Later, I transitioned into web design. After awhile, I decided to go back to school to get a web dev degree. Currently, I'm paid quite well to handle all the web development for a business in the Minneapolis area. One of my hobbies consists of me running a Minnesota Twins site. Infrequently, I write for VGChartz.

But do you know what really makes me happy at the end of the day? Irritating people like you.
