The real question is why does it matter. Everyone has copied something off everyone at some point. Is how all business work. Welcome to the world.

I entered this thread to write this. EXACTLY this. So thank you! :)

I survived the Apocalyps3

It doesn't matter who was the first to think of it, it is who was the first to make it mainstream. The fact is that the move wouldn't exist if the wii did not take off. Nintendo doesn't usually invent their products all on their own, they are often based on semi-old tech. What they do is make them popular like apple.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

One of the greatest things you learn as a level designer is that originality isn't what matters, it's what you take from things previously done and make it better.

Take from that what you will.

What company do you work for? If you don't mind me asking of course.

If you don't value innovation and creativity in gaming the industry will end up dominated by the technology motivation.

So far the technology side of things has been assimilating and reproducing the creativity that persists. But the truth is this is an entertainment industry, where creativity and innovation reigns even as it relates to the implementation of technology.

So you have to value innovation. The "so what? we copy", is a technology industry thing, which is fine for that particular industry, but if you start using it for entertainment industries the result is eventually not as good. We're best served by valueing innovation, or at least good new implementations of ideas that have originality to them.

I'm not saying it's right to condemn companies that copy good ideas, but it's best to acknowledge and value originality once in a while. Because that's what really drives entertainment forward, it's new ideas that work well.

A games console is technology

A game is entertainment.

When Microsoft copies: "Oh look, Microsoft is up to its old tricks."

When Sony copies: "Shame on you Sony. Be more original like Nintendo."

When Nintendo copies: "Everyone copies someone at some point. It's normal."

Sorry but the EyeToy was not Garbage and they never gave up on it seeing as it is still bieng sold to Date, and anyways how can the eyetoy be garbage when has sold 10million units. And Nintendo i would say did copy playstation with motion controls because before anyone knew about the Wii Sony showed a tech demo of the Sixaxis Controller, although the Wii is using about half of that in there controllers.

IMO Sony has been Copied for so long im suprised that they really havent copied others tech, until recently with Move(really the Wii HD).

Actually Sony didn't copy Nintendo. They're just uninspired and they have no vision because they already had a wicked interface but they could never be bothered to actually use it until recently, and even after all that time they couldn't even get their first E3 reveal to look professional.

I don't get it, proving that Sony didn't copy Nintendo just leaves them open to an even bigger criticism. So why bother?

Tease.
