He didn't need PlayOn if he was paying for gold.
That's great for people who only like those prime time shows that are run through netflix. But for the rest of us who like shows on other channels still have to fork out a small fortune either through a satellite or cable company. Or buy everything on DVD 2 years later.
130 bucks a month for cable???? I dropped cable too because most things are available on the computer anyways. The main reason to have cable for me is for sports now, other than that i can see anything else on the computer easily. I even bought mlb.tv so i wouldn't miss a baseball game.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
I rarely watch Cable TV now. I only really use it for live sports. Lately I've only been watching UFC Fight Nights and Ultimate Fighter on TV. Though I did watch some of Pure Pwnage on TV (you can catch all the episodes online though anyway).
I'm all about the information age. I'm not good with remembering what time a show is on and stuff and keeping up with that sort of thing. I can't be arsed to. So I just download the stuff.

$130/month actually buys you HDTV/Phone/Internet through Time Warner. He's only "saving" ~60/month by dropping the TV, but he picked up netflix and LIVE which offsets his savings by ~$10/month.
I personally use a combination of Over the Air, Netflix, and Hulu all on a HTPC I just built, and prior to that I used my main PC that I bought over 4 years ago. The only time I had cable was at the end of my stay in 1 appartment complex that decided they were going to force cable on everyone to "save us money" except it cost me an extra $30/month. The only sports I like to watch are Football and MotoGP, so I just head over to my parents on MotoGP Sundays or have them record it and watch it later. The only show that I actually miss is HGTV's Income Property which was an interesting show to watch.

I dropped cable for high speed internet 5 years ago, I really love the fact that cable bills keep going up but internet prices have been pretty much stagnant.
