Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft promises Milo is the next step.

it was probably the most impressive software shown in this gen on consoles and i sure hope that this will become something more. plus it gave an idea how adventure games could work with natal.

come on - first person adventure game with Myst style puzzles, real time interrogation of NPCs, abbility to see yourself in mirrors in the game. if MS or other publisher will make game like this and it will work Natal will be a winner for me.

The whole "it's real until debunked" argument is pretty weak.

If it really was working as well as the pre-recorded video demonstrated a year ago, they would have rolled out Milo onstage and had it interact with the presenter or even someone from the audience.

I think it's way too early to tell about Milo. I mean, we haven't seen it since E3, so chances are it's much improved now. I really don't see this coming out until next year at the earliest anyway and wouldn't be shocked if it got pushed back to 2012 considering the Milo team is much smaller than the Fable team.

Why was it too early?  Alan Wake and Heavy Rain were demoed YEARS ago, and they are just now being released.  Anyway, Milo was a demo to illustrate the technology being Natal, but people got hung up around a little digital boy, and hte fact that THAT's what they keyed on is creep to me.  Milo should have been a "Marcus" clone going thru and blasting shit to appeal  to the gaming lot...and we wonder why gamers get a bad rap from the politicians of the world.

No disrespect at all but if Michael Jackson's still alive he'll be damn excited abt Natal and all teh things he can do with Milo.

Seriously, when the presenter couldn't even get his avatar to show the bottom of his foot without displaying some seriously wonky joint manipulation, you have to wonder whether the recognition coding was that far along in development for what was showcased in the Milo video.

But if that's the target, it definitely presents a lot of interesting possibilities in game development.

Just don't be so quick to take a scripted presentation as a final product.

you should try wizardry 8. In game you can actually write ANY question to NPC!!!

The demo was performed under optimal conditions...When I saw the demo video, and I just watched it again, I thought about how it could be applied to a game like Fallout, Dragon Age or ME.  Even if it is a bit scripted...that level of immersion and interactivity goes such a long way to enhance the gaming experience.

If you looks at the video of Milo...there weren't any quick twitch actions by Claire, unlike the wonky joint manipulation ur talking about...it's apples and oranges, imho.

Sigh, so much ignorance in this thread. Peter M has explicitly stated that they use lots of clever tricks to achieve the appeance of AI.

Maybe he did. Have you got a link?

I don't have time to do your searches for you.  Just find his post E3 interviews.  He clearly states that the whole point of Milo is to give the illusion of AI, which it does awesomely.

I don't think anyone is claiming Milo as actual artificial intelligence. We have thousands of our handsomest computer scientists working on creating even rudimentary artificial intelligence - it'd be rather embarresing for them if a group of video game devs got there first :P

Those who believe in the Milo demonstration would refer to it as an illusion of AI. Those who don't believe in the demonstration claim that Milo's actions were preprogrammed completely, and that he was not responding to the woman at all - she merely knew what he was programmed to say and could thus could act so as to make it look like he was responding to her

Actually she wasn't told what to say, and Milo responded similarly to the Digital Foundry people when they described the demo. Personally im not sure what category I would place Milo into.

Tease.

Did Milo behave in an identical way to the DF folks?  Probably is...you don't need the Natal deivce to do that...it would all be a performance...and people may say what they want...but Molynuex isn't a charlatan, which that would make him.  M$ has one of the most robust R&D labs in the country,...heck the world, but people will believe what they want to.
