Maybe Grandia.
Take my love, take my land..
Kylie Dog you are completely full of it. The only thing that was better on PS1 was the FMV. You seem to be the only one saying different. I compared both games side by side on the same TV when I bought the N64 version. I didn't think it was possible for them to squeeze a two CD game in a cartridge at the time and aside from the FMV the N64 version was clearly superior graphically. They didn't upscale the backgrounds either, the original backgrounds were rendered at a higher resolution and then down scaled to 320x240. Since they had access to the original game assets for the port they redid them at 640x480.
DK64 looked great a but the game was another terrible Rare collect-a-thon. After the original Banjo-Kazooie, Rare seemed to think having run all over the stages and collect things was a good game mechanic. They were terribly mistaken.
Some of the later Saturn games were really impressive....well pretty much anything from Sega themselves was impressive. Burning Rangers was impressive for the time. If they had released Shemue Saturn it would have been the best looking game of the generation.

Expansion pack ftw! PD I always thought looked good. DK64 was very pretty as well. Both used that bad boy, I think DK actually came with it.
Darc Requiem is right in saying that Sega saturn titles were damn impressive.
Virtua Fighter 2 was like the smoothest best looking fighter for years (until tekken 3) and it ran 60 frames per second and higher resolution than any PS1/n64 game EVER made. (704 x 480)
In any case, this thread is somewhat flawed as all consoles up until this gen were 32bit consoles. PS2 and xbox 1 were all 32 bit processors...with some 128 bit floating point capabilities.

Even this gen...we've only finally upgraded to 64 bit processors. So no 128 yet...:)
I am not sure if true 128 bit processor exists to this day.

VF2 looked great. It took the PS1 forever to get a game, Tekken 3, that actually surpassed it. Don't forget about The Last Bronx. It actually looked better than VF2. Although I think it ran at 640x480 instead of 704x480, but it still ran at 60fps like VF2.
@Disolitude
If I'm not mistaken aren't the Gamecube and Wii technically 32 bit as well. I thought the Power PC G3 chip that the GC and Wii CPU is based on was actually 32 bit.

Last Bronx was 30 fps if I remember correctly...but it looked awesome. Too bad no one cared about the saturn by the time it came out. It was really fun and easy to pick up for a 3D fighter...
Edit - you are right it was 60. I remember the game chugging at times though...
FFIX, when I first saw the opening cutscene, here's my response:
"Holy shit, this is a PS1 game?!"
T'was beautiful.

The only one full of it is you. They were upscaled from the PS1 game. If you want to see real improved background resolution look at the DC version of RE2. |
N64 only looked better if you had the 4 meg add on cart. Possibly you didn't have this?
I played through every version of RE2 out there and N64 does look a bit smoother than PS1... PC version beats all but looks funny as hell when the model resolution is 1024x768 and backgrounds are still 640x480 lol.
