Perhaps they meant 1.055 Xbox 360, not 1.55. |
It's only incorrect when you don't quote the full text surrounding the claim. The sentence immediately following states: "Internationally Wii has sold 11.5m consoles, Xbox 360 10.9m and PS3 4.6m." So there's no need to incite typos etc, according to Screen Digest's data, Wii was winning the console war (WW).
I'm slightly perplexed by the difference between their 360 data and Chart-Track too. They are proffesional analysts, and should be using Chart-Track data. Wii and PS3 data matches up with previous Chart-Track announcements. We could explain some of the difference in 360 figures by rounding off. Chart-Track said 360 only had 1.4M install base for Halo 3 release, so should not include the release week sales, whereas Screen Digest Q3 data would. Even though Halo 3 would have given a huge surge in 360 sales, I doubt it could be as high as the 150K difference. Now, having said that, Chart-Track didn't give an exact figure, they simply rounded off to the nearest 100K, so the actual amount could have been as high as 1,449,999. That takes care of upto 50K of the difference. Screen digest data is more acurate, to the nearest 10K, so we can only discount 5K for rounding off there. That leaves 95K+ for 360 sales that week. It still seems too high to me, but I guess it may be possible as I would assume that 360 sales for Halo 3 should have been quite front-loaded.
