The Wii remote functions like a light gun, you point it towards the sensor bar and the camera in the Wiimote tracks your movement, Move works the opposite way round.
Move senses your position in 3D space, so for boxing games you have to actually raise your hands to put your guard up. Wii motions can all quite easily be done with just a flick of the wrist, with Move you'll actually have to move your body because of how the interface is designed. It's much more like real life, translating your actual position into 3D space rather than checking what angle the remote is pointing at a static sensor.
I'm actually suprised and impressed, I should have realised it before but this tech, although similar in appearence to teh Wii is completely different, newer and probably better than the Wii. |
Um Wiimote CAN detect movement in 3-D space. I don't know why some people can't seem to understand this...
As for which is better, it'll ulimately come down to the quality of the GAMES as to whether or not the Move improves on the Wiimote.. In other words - not likely.
If Sony is going to go ahead and copy the Wiimote 4 YEARS after the fact, they damn well better make sure it's better. And the funny thing is, I hear there is actually a slight delay in the motion detecting, and most accounts so far have been negative. So it sounds to me like it will actually be WORSE than the Wiimote, which would be pretty sad considering the Wiimote is now near 4 years old.

While I would have bolded your entire post, I decided to just take the one thing that stood out for me and bold that.
The idea that better technology alone is going to propel a product past another is just...baffling to me. History has shown that better tech can be all for naught with out the proper software or content isn't married to it. PS2 had the worst tech last gen, PS1 before that, SNES before that, NES etc. The games are what matter, not tech demos. And the thing is, the games shown to accompany move thus far have been VERY underwhelming.
Which actually brings me to what bdbd was talking about in terms of third party games and the like regarding move. This could potentially turn into another blood bath for devs if they invest solely in move development. Sony is going to have to be the ones to propel Move, they cannot rely on thirds to get that job done. And beyond this Sony's games haven't really been able to create that sort of demand needed to drive sustained momentum for their main console. So I've my doubts they can do it for an add on.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
