It was available day 1. Infact at the launch of the first games to have the DRM, pirates could play the game while legitimate users couldnt

Not without lots of micromanagement (tweaking values). Maybe there's new versions now though.

No. It didnt let you play all levels.

Just how bad is the DRM? I haven't used a game from Ubisoft on PC yet.

There is a server emulator available now that is meant to allow 100% completion of the game

I haven't tried it, but reports say it works perfectly, check Rlslog

I heard AC2 was pirated within the 1st weekend?

I heard a story that the Ubisoft servers had issues, people who legitimately bought the game couldn't play it, meanwhile the people who had it pirated played it with no problem..

 

I could be wrong, as I don't play PC games much anymore, but a friend told me that and he plays PC games exclusively
