Age of gaming population 1 6.25%

Today I remark something for the first time. PSP vs DS sales in Japan is neck to neck 38 K vs 42 K, which DS is at 109.5% of PSP sales. But in america 54 K vs 169 K, an advance of 313%. Then "others" 35 K vs 155K a whole 443%.

So I quickly make up a list of factors that could explain the differences. Feel free to add new factors and comments on those. Im surprise that the 2 same product could result in a so big difference in the major indicators. What do you think is explaining the difference in selling ratio of the PSP vs DS in the different major indicators?

Around the Network

One of the reasons the DS isn't doing better in Japan is because of market saturation. When practically every other person has one, there aren't many people left to sell to.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

LOL, your right, I usually never looks at the handheld sales. Total of DS is 130 K while total of PSP 57 K, so yeah market saturation really look possible.

Good topic!

What I think is that, even though japanese PSP sales are a lot better than the rest of the world, they're not THAT good. DS has 34 million sellers in japan only. 34!

PSP has 3 - all monster hunter. If that's not a huge difference, I don't know what is.

So, again, this is not neck to neck. The PSP sells a lot of units there because of piracy, imo - because even though it sells some software, it's not nearly enough for the install base of 15 million in japan alone.

So yeah, DS can't sell no more in japan because of oversaturation like Grimes said... but it doesn't mean it has fallen in PSP level.
