Forums - Gaming - Who will dominate the next gen?

Seece, since this thread is about brand power, sales, etc...what do you think MS could do to make the Xbox brand more appealing in continental Europe?....this gen MS has performed far better with the 360 than with the original Xbox in the territory, in the UK (where you live) it´s a favorite against the PS3, but it still doesn´t have the "Playstation appeal" in continental Europe..one of the apparent reasons I heard (dunno if it´s true) is Europeans prefer playing on PC if they have a choice, so the 360 sharing many titles with the PC would be a weakness in that regard...any truth to that?

Pot luck, I think the PS brand will always be the favourite in Europe until Microsoft come up with a product like the wii (in the sense that it sells a bucket load)

I'm not surprised PS is still a european fav, they seem to be more easiy swayed by brands than the west.

edit - not heard that reason, but it might be the case, the 360 is still doing really well in Europe. (tied with PS virtually)

tough to speculate on this, i see ms and nintendo releasing new consoles around the same time, now its hard to really say but depending on what nintendo does with the original wii as in seize production or if them keep making wii's which i belive if they kept making them would be foolish. and i wouldnt expect nintendo to get the monster sales they got this gen again due to the fact that i say almost a quarter of the wii's overall sales, is like extreme casual audiance and is fine with thier original wii, and have no reason to upgrade to "wii2" or whatever.

Microsoft im pretty sure will get there 30-40 million devotees and play second fiddle to nintendo again.

now i think sony is going to let the ps3 run longer than either of the other 2 consoles, so late that it goes halfway into thier lifespans, they are going to let the ps3 build up to " wii 1" numbers. as cheesy as it sounds i see them dropping the ps4 halfway through "the next gen', so they would have, "the Xbox360 headstartish thing" going on.

All right. I see. You are making me get Socratic.

You hold that the Playstation brand is the biggst in gaming?

There is one thing carl doesn't seem to get, just because the NAME Playstation is bandied around, doesn't mean the name Nintendo isn't in people's minds. Just because people say "lets go play the Wii" doesn't mean they don't know who it's made by ... they know full well it's Nintendo and so the brand name is there.

Playstation was a huge brand, heck it still is, but it just isn't what it used to be compared to Xbox (in the west) and Nintendo (WW)

Anyway that's my take on it, I think Carls argument is ridiculous.

That's a fair point. All I was going to say to him (since I can't now) was that even if the brand name was the largest right now, it's not enough for them to sell on level with their competitors even with the price difference being enormously reduced (299 vs 199). So even if he's right on that point (which I agree with you that he is not), it doens't make for a valid argument concerning future sales.

@Hsrob, DID U JUST SAY NINTEOD WILL GET 3RD PARTY SUPPORT? LMFOAOAOAOAOAAO

I know, this guy is some kind of jokester. Nintendo has never gotten major 3rd party support in the history of video game consoles and it is absurd to think they ever will.

Nintendo had the best third party support during both the NES and SNES generations.

The GB, GBA and DS also had better third party support than their competitors.

I was out buying a replacement black Wii with the motion+ and Wii Sports resort and they were practically sold out again... both white and black and I had to go to a couple of stores to find one. So what that made me realise was, alll Nintendo has to do is keep adding value to the system and the future system and they will do well.

If Nintendo continues to produce the software that people want, then Nintendo will continue to finish first in this race.

Pretty much this.  Software is key, and in that area Nintendo is king.
