Forums - Nintendo - Why the graphics in Crystal Bearers is more impressive than many think.

Okay, not just any streaming, but streaming this fast. And Uncharted 2 doesn't have textures as detailed as some other PS3 games (especially with all that happens on screen).

Plus some developers admit they hold back graphics for some games to accommodate streaming. Insomniac said that was why the textures in Resistance (which I believe uses the same engine as Uncharted?) aren't as detailed as Gears of War (which also uses a bit of streaming but not as much).

Resistance 2 uses Insomniac Engine V.2.0 and Uncharted 2 uses the Naughty Dog 2.0 engine as well as the Havok physics engine. Just to let you know for future reference

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Thank you. And from what I've seen they both go for huge scale over texture detail.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Okay done, going to go pick it up, it better be a good game LTNK

Resistance 2 does and after a recent play through you do notice bland textures and a couple of other graphical annoyances. Uncharted 2 only ever suffers from a few texture pop ins, but they are rare and you'd have to be nitpicking to find them.

Actually, I'm just discussing the grpahics here. The overall game depends. This isn't so much a Final Fantasy or even Crystal Chronicles game as much as one of those quirky action adventure games like Square made in the PS1 years. I like those games, so I like this, so how you might like this depends on how much you like thos.

Not saying lesser textures are bad. I'm just stating that things like resolution and shading is less than some other games, to make room for the scale. I don't look at graphical numbers as good or bad. I try to look at graphics in artistic terms.

The point where it suffered in all this was definitely framerate, though. Unless that was more a CPU problem (with all the stuff they had going on simultaneously and all)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Rings of Fate was pretty cool.

In terms of setting it look more like a Final Fantasy game, and it has more walking around than platforming. In terms of gameplay it's about using the Wii pointer to grab things and throw them around. It's actually pretty cool, but remember to be careful and measured with it and not to flail the controller around. I found doing the latter makes it less responsive and can make your hand sore. So this is not a game to just waggle around, despite how some videos make it look.

I picked it up, it isn't horrible, camera sucks big time though and I play MH a lot, this games camera controls were designed for analog

Crystal Bearers is great looking, but FFXII is totally the wrong comparison the make. The games are almost completely different in terms of design, scope, budget and even genre. If you want to look at better PS2 comparisons, stuff like Kingdom Hearts, Code Age Commanders and Dawn of Mana would probably work better. And Crystal Bearers comes off pretty favorably against all of them visually, nevermind the physics at work.

I brought it up because others compared the two, like Torrilian who did this site's review of Crystal Bearers (the comparison was on a thread, not the review). So if you have a problem with that comparison, he's who you should take that up with.

Oh, I'm not taking issue, just saying there are better games for comparison.

Code Age Commanders would probably be the best actually considering it's in the same genre and comes fro the exact same development team.  Crystal Bearers likely had a bigger budget, but they're still likely closer than FFXII (which had a GIGANTIC budget, possibly even the largest last gen overall).
