Forums - PC Discussion - FAT32 formatter for 1.5TB HDD?

One of my friends has just bought a 1.5TB Seagate HDD so he can connect it to his PS3. Naturally, it came with NTFS so I need to format it in FAT32. I have been using a program called SWISSKNIFE for a few years now for myself, but it seems it is not compatible with a HDD this size. It show the HDD as 403XXX MB when it is actually 1403XXX MB. I created the 400GB system, but it still will not recognize the other TB. I tried formatting 600GB to NTFS using Windows hoping it would then see the other 900GB, but that didn't work either. I don't have internet at my house, so I have to download the program here at work, then take it home to my PC to use it. FAT32 is compatible up to 2TB. If anyone knows a program that will work, please let me know. If I have to make multiple partitions, I can. I would rather have the one partition at 1.5TB. Thanks in advance.

I have moved and do not have the internet at home, yet.

you can use GParted: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

you can copy to a USB and boot it from there, then format your HD.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

you could use windows to do it. it can format the whole thing in fat32.

@a12331, windows wont format the whole thing. Windows has a very small partition size for fat32, I believe 32Gb max. @ OP, use this http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/ I had the same issues tryin to find a format tool when I bought my 1TB external drive, tried swiss knife as well. This tool is real simple and straight to the point, worked great for me.

If I recall correctly, Windows FDISK has a bug that can only create FAT32 partitions up to 512GB in size
