I must say, I agree 

I think its a matter of decent marketing and using the right publishers to promote their games.

Capcom-Rockstar had it right with Grand Theft Auto, which has been one of the best selling western-made games in Japan.

I'd say it has more to do with people who like western games sticking with consoles, while a lot of people who play Japanese games exclusively have moved on to portables.  Also the gap between launches in western markets and Japan seems to have dropped this gen, as well as having easy access to online information/advertising.

a little more and nothing is pretty much the same when it comes to Japan's "embrace" of western videogames....
