Dave Cox, producer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, has told PSM3 that Uncharted 2 did not “redefine” the action genre because it was only a single-format release.

 

Admitting that it was “highly polished”, Cox believes that if the game were to have hit more than just PS3, it would’ve possibly set a precedent for action games to follow.

“Visually Uncharted 2 is beautiful and it impresses me technically. But does Uncharted 2 redefine 3rd person action games? I don’t think that it does,” said Cox.

“Uncharted 2 is a great game and I enjoyed it immensely. The standouts are the story and the voice acting.
“[But] Uncharted was a single format release. If any game is going to set a benchmark for a genre it would need to do so across multiple platforms.”

Castlevania: Lords of Shadows is a joint venture with Kojima Productions and Mecury Steam, and is set for release sometime this year on Xbox 360 and PS3.

other games have set standards for genres while being on a single platform. i think he really doesnt like the game and was just trying to be nice about it. cant blame him though...i didnt really like the game either.

Who said it "redefined" action games? It's my favorite action title this gen, but I wouldn't say that anything has redefined the genre since, maybe Prince of Persia:SOT?

What a silly thing to say, Half-Life 2 was also on a single platform (for a long time) but that didn't stop it from redefining the FPS genre. Same with Starcraft and many other games.

Very foolish logic. It's just another 3-D Castlevania title and he's looking to PR his game as the cure for Cancer. Hope for once its a 3-D CV that isn't sub-par. Half these developers forget what CV really is.

Funny, funny man, it's the exclusives (and CoD) who redefine genres, not the other way around.



Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Stupidest comment I've ever seen.

Fair enough, it's not automatically wrong to say that Uncharted 2 didn't redefine actiong games, but the reasoning he gives is embarrassing. What a tool.
