If he was hacking for hacking sake,  then why did he distribute it?  He knew what would happen when he did,  he just couldnt say so for fear of legal actions.  And he created this custom firmware just so his previous hack would still work.   He knew what he was doing, he was opening up the floodgates for piracy on the PS3, Please Stop protecting that douchebag.

I don't support hacking or pirating games, and even if piracy was fully possible on PS3 I wouldn't take part in it, but your entire outlook is beyond me.

Sony is a corporation that exists for no other reason than to maximize their profit at your expense.  Geohot is a guy who spent his free time making it possible for you to get free stuff.  I agree that one of these two parties is a douchebag, but it is most assuredly not geohot.

Congratulations for writing the dumbest post of the day.

You should always care about loosing a feature even if you don't use it.

+1

that makes no sense at all.

How does that not make sense (get past his typo)?  When is losing a feature a good thing?  The answer is when you get nothing in return.  We lost other OS support, sure I don't use it, but some other people do with legit reasons.  One should always be sad when anything is taken from them.

It makes no sense because we DO get something in return. We get a more secure system, and network, that is less hackable. I don't think we could have asked for anything more.

You're a pitiful child.  I'm dumb because I do not support a massive multinational corporation which, in hundreds of ways, conspires to profit at the expense of both consumers and artists?  I am not just talking about the Playstation division here.  I am talking about Sony music, Sony Pictures and the MPAA, and dozens of other ways in which Sony has shortchanged consumers to maximize their own profits.  Even the Playstation division is run by people who are on record denigrating the intelligence of their own customer base, although that is a minor crime compared to the activities of their other divisions.

Geohot is...  a guy, like me or you, who might I add did all of this hacking free of charge and with no plans or attempts to profit from it.  Whether you agree with piracy or not, no one is forcing you to pirate games, in fact I'm quite glad you aren't going to, but defending Goliath against David and then calling me an idiot is really beyond the pale.

I hope that guy get super aids! Either that or I want a firmware update that causes any attempts to hack the PS3 end in a brutal urinary tract infection and cancer

Like Sony is the only corporation that exist for that purpose. You act as if this Geohot guy is doing everybody such a great service. What sony did wrong,is give this guy more attention than he deserves. That's the only reason they should'nt have removed the otherOs feature. All that did was give Geohot a challenge, and of course he's going to accept it. So as I stated before I personally could care less about the other os feature being removed, but in doing so,it's causing Sony more trouble than it's worth on there end.

Is that directed at me or spenderzz?

Couldn't he see legal action against him for openingly doing this type of thing?

I don't mind losing OtherOS support if it means I have a more secure System.

I just don't want to see the PS3 turning into the next PSP. Because, the PSP doesn't get a whole lot of support as it is, and I believe one of the contributing factors to that is piracy.
I want as many awesome games available for my PS3 as possible, and I think the best way to ensure that, is to have a secure system.

And if it means that I lose a feature I never used in the first place. Then so be it.
