Forums - Sony - 3D will push PS3 further

My uncle who can barely scroll through an IPod menu knew about 3D, even my stricly FIFA and Fight Night playing friends knew about 3D. It seems more people know about it than I originally thought, they don't all associate with the PS3 though, they just know TV's are coming out and games can be played in 3D.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

what's the point of buying 3d TVs at the moment - sony already confirmed that there won't be any 3d games on ps3.
some developers already said that 3d is not possible on ps3 without huge sacrifices.
current 3d technology used in TVs causes glaucoma if you watch longer than 2 hours(which means glasses, medicaments, surgical operations and possible blindness).

so once again why would anyone want to buy 3d TV? it's just a fad made by electronic companies to make us buy another TV just when we bought our new LCD with Full HD TV. it was the same with SD TVs, Plasmas, Plasmas with HD Ready, Plasmas with Full HD, LCDs HD Ready and LCDs with Full HD.

Theres no point yet, but its an interesting development. Next generation is when 3D starts to really happen, for this generation its a side show and yes the real deal is happening on PC if you're actually interested in doing 3D right now.

Tease.

yes, but it's still not healthy at all for users/gamers to use it on normal basis and considering that there's already a 3d technology made by sharp and samsung that doesn't have this problem and is much better(developed in late 2008/early 2009 that let's you watch 3d without glasses and from any point of view you would see a different thing) makes me wonder what were they thinking pushing this old 3D tech so much.
yes, it's much cheaper than sharp's technology, yes it's "bad" enough that they can release TVs with TRUE 3D 3 years later but, when the health problem will become well known fact to the public and we will see first effects of it they will be in deep shit.

@squilliam

I agree.
As for rushing out to buy a 3D TV .... I'll wait.

My current TV can do 200mhz and pretty much anything a console does except play it's games. There is a setting that "enables 3D support" but that's yet to be put to the test.

Question: Do you need a 3D monitor or 3DTV when you use PC 3D software?

From some "expert" opinions there are quite a few TVs capable of 3D already out there but the manufacturers are just relabelling them as 3D and doubling the price.

Sony never confrimed there wouldnt be any 3d ps3 games... where are you getting your information from?

There will infact be 3d enabled PS3 games!

Was the glaucoma thing a joke?

And that series of tv fads that you are talking about is called the continuation of consumer electronics.

There will always be something new and cutting edge in the world of tv's. They constantly evolve. And they always will.

I am starting to think your whole post was a joke, and I fell for the bait....

@op, there are an insane amount of people who consider themselves to be hardcore gamers who are acting like complete ludites about the entire emergence of 3D.

To those people i just have to say, go to Best buy and check out the set up for yourself, it works really really nice. There is a crispness above what is seen in the imax theaters when you are so close to the screen.

This years PGA masters is already confirmed to somehow being broadcast in 3d, http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118016472.html?categoryid=1009&cs=1 so its already happening. This will not turn out to just be a fad, it will be huge, and I can't wait.

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

how much for a 32" HD-3D TV in england?? i'm looking to upgrade, but i bet i can't afford it lol

@Kowen
I dont think 3D TVs are available in UK at the mo. It will be later this year
@disolitude
No console can ever compete with PC so no argument here but consoles are just more convenient. CAD 2,400.00 is about GBP 1,600.00 so the price is right. Expensive but there are people who are happy to pay. Prices should go down before Xmas.

If Samsungs TV is better than Sonys then the choice is obvious. There is some interesting read here so I might be getting a totally different tv

yeah I went in comet on the way home... useless, sweaty, scruffy sales asst didnt have a clue.

It will be a samsung for me.... more bang for your buck.

Just becareful since samsung customer service is not nearly as good as sony's.We have  a 46 sony and a 40 Samsung.Samsung had some problems ,,,we had to take the TV to a specific shop which was given to us by samsung.The Sony one had a small problem with analogue cable. it was 4 months out of warranty.Sony send 2 people to our house and they fixed it and also they said sony has authorized the job under warranty eventhough your warranty is up.(the bill was $478,,,,and i was like, damn sony really loves to loose money lol)

but their customer service here in canada is night and day.Not even comparable.the thing that sony did for us just made our next tv purchase very clear.Their customer service is unrivaled imo in TV depratment.

WTF?

SSHD and GT5 are confirmed to have 3D. Something isn't right...

ultraslick, sony already confirmed that all those games they presented in 3d will never be released(probably because 3d was possible only because they used some additional PCs horsepower).

"Was the glaucoma thing a joke?"

no it's not a joke. watching movies in Imax(and in 3d technology currently pushed by manufacturers) causes conjunctival sclerosis and that causes glaucoma and few other ailments like infections etc. and then there are things like headaches and Dry Eye Syndrome(most common "side effect" of conjunctival sclerosis).
